Laurie Anderson<\/a> has announced a new album centered around pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart\u2019s tragic last flight. Amelia<\/em><\/a> is out August 30 via Nonesuch<\/a>. Lead single \u201cRoad to Mandalay\u201d is the first preview of Anderson\u2019s take on the topic, and you can listen to it below.<\/p>\n \u201cThe words used in Amelia<\/em> are inspired by her pilot diaries, the telegrams she wrote to her husband, and my idea of what a woman flying around the world might think about,\u201d Anderson explains. Helping bring her musical vision to life are Czech orchestra Filharmonie Brno with conductor Dennis Russell Davies, Anohni, Gabriel Cabezas, Rob Moose, Ryan Kelly, Martha Mooke, Marc Ribot, Tony Scherr, Nadia Sirota, and Kenny Wolleson.<\/p>\n Amelia<\/em> is Anderson\u2019s first proper album in six years, following her Grammy-winning<\/a> 2018 record Landfall<\/em><\/a>. That following year, she joined Tenzin Choegyal and Jesse Paris Smith for Songs From the Bardo<\/em><\/a>, in which Anderson reads passages from The Bardo Thodol<\/em> translated into English by Choegyal.
