Kevin Costner<\/b><\/a> is moving forward after finalizing his public divorce<\/a> from Christine Baumgartner<\/b><\/a>. In a new interview with PEOPLE<\/i><\/a>, the Yellowstone<\/i> actor calls his ex-wife a \u201cgood partner [and] good mother\u201d as he adjusts to his new reality as a single man.<\/p>\n

\u201c[We] just weren\u2019t able to go the distance,\u201d Kevin, 69, said in an interview published Wednesday, June 19. \u201cWhat I can say is I\u2019ve had an amazing life. I\u2019ve been bruised, but I\u2019ve had an amazing life and I\u2019m grateful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After 18 years of marriage, Kevin and Christine, 50, filed for divorce in May 2023. They finalized their divorce settlement in February. The exes currently share custody of Kevin\u2019s three youngest children, Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 14.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just do it,\u201d he said when navigating his new normal. \u201cYou just keep talking, you keep coaching [the kids], you keep interested in what they\u2019re interested in.\u201d<\/p>\n

A new relationship status, however, can also lead to new chatter. Earlier this year, the actor sparked romance rumors<\/a> with Jewel<\/strong><\/a> after they were invited to Sir Richard Branson<\/strong>\u2019s private island.<\/p>\n

While speaking to Howard Stern<\/strong><\/a>, Kevin assured fans that they are just friends. \u201cWe\u2019ve never gone out,\u201d he said on the Tuesday, June 18 episode of SiriusXM\u2019s The Howard Stern Show<\/i><\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s special, and I don\u2019t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that\u2019s what we have.\u201d<\/p>\n
