The MMO RPG has launched into Early Access on Steam today (June 18).<\/p>\n<p>While it is inevitable any new MMO will be compared to the big names on the scene (<a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/world-of-warcraft-the-war-within-beta-sign-ups-now-open\/\">World of Warcraft currently has a beta open for its next expansion<\/a>, Destiny 2\u2019s expansion <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/destiny-2-the-final-shape-launch-sales-players-concurrents-pc-numbers\/\">The Final Shape just barely missed setting a player count record<\/a> on its release day, and <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/elder-scrolls-online-celebrates-10th-anniversary-with-free-trial\/\">The Elder Scrolls Online is celebrating its 10th anniversary<\/a> with a huge free trial), Pax Dei is deliberately trying to differentiate itself from the big names.<\/p>\n<p><noscript><iframe title=\"Pax Dei | Early Access trailer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5Bp1gbcZ5N4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/news\/app\/1995520\/view\/6191967063109611480\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a post on the game\u2019s Steam page<\/a> last week, developers Mainframe Industries went into some detail to explain how they see their game as sitting apart from other MMOs currently on offer.<\/p>\n<p>They have outlined three core elements to the gameplay of Pax Dei \u2013 Homestead, where players mostly peacefully build their homes; Adventure, where players engage in combat to earn rare rewards; and Civilization, where large numbers of players work together to achieve common goals such as massive building projects.<\/p>\n<h2>What Pax Dei is not<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cPax Dei is not a theme park MMO,\u201d says the post. \u201cWe do not have NPCs with yellow exclamation marks telling you they\u2019ve lost a daughter in the woods. There is no linear, scripted gameplay that forces players into fixed group sizes or private instanced dungeons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZones and gear are not gated behind minimum-level requirements. There are great games out there that do this, but this is not what Pax Dei is about. In Pax Dei, the world itself is a mystery. Nobody holds your hand, and you can venture as deep as you want \u2013 at your own peril.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pax Dei is also not a medieval simulation, although it is inspired by mythology and superstitions of the Middle Ages. It is set in a purely fictional world with \u201cmyths, miracles, and monsters.\u201d And, while it may look like a survival game, it very much is not.
