All 24 employees have lost their jobs, according to <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paradoxinteractive.com\/media\/press-releases\/press-release\/paradox-interactive-to-close-down-paradox-tectonic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:a press release;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The news of Paradox Tectonic\u2019s closure comes just one day after Paradox Interactive announced its decision to <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paradoxinteractive.com\/media\/press-releases\/press-release\/paradox-interactive-cancels-the-release-of-life-by-you-which-impacts-the-second-quarter-with-msek-208-in-a-write-down\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:cancel the release of Life By You;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em><\/em><\/a>. The game\u2019s troubled development was punctuated by blown deadlines on three different early access release windows before the title was scrapped entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is difficult and drastic news for our colleagues at Tectonic, who\u2019ve worked hard on <em>Life By You\u2019s<\/em> Early Access release,\u201d Paradox Interactive Chief Executive Officer Fredik Wester said in a released statement. \u201cSadly, with cancellation of their sole project we have to take the tough decision to close down the studio. We are deeply grateful for their hard work in trying to take Paradox into a new genre.\u201d Wester said in a separate statement that the life simulation did not \u201cmeet our expectations\u201d and could not deliver a version \u201cthat we\u2019d be satisfied with\u201d in time for release.<\/p>\n<p>Paradox Interactive has good reason to be wary of releasing a bad game. The studio is still feeling the blowback from Colossal Order\u2019s <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/whats-up-with-the-toxicity-around-cities-skylines-ii-213034938.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Cities: Skylines II;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em><\/em><\/a>. The game had a number of bugs following its release in October that put a huge strain on PC graphics cards making it difficult to play in 4K. The sequel also failed to launch with promised features like mod support, and its <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/cities-skylines-2s-embarrassed-developers-are-giving-away-beachfront-property-for-free-170042260.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Beachfront Property asset;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> led to an \u201cOverwhelmingly Negative\u201d review on Steam that forced Colossal Order to issue refunds.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also the third major publisher to close a game studio in just the last week. <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/embracer-shuts-down-alone-in-the-dark-reboot-studio-pieces-interactive-124555063.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Embracer Group;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> announced on Monday that it would close Pieces Interactive following its release of the <em>Alone in the Dark<\/em> reboot. <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamedeveloper.com\/business\/wizard-with-a-gun-dev-galvanic-games-is-closing-down\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Galvanic Games;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>, the Seattle based developer behind <em>Wizard with a Gun<\/em>, announced its dissolvement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>These closings are also just the latest bits of bad news in a year that\u2019s already full of layoffs and studio closures.
