The complaint also alleges that Adobe\u2019s early termination fee disclosures were buried in fine print or required consumers to hover over tiny icons to find them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans are tired of companies hiding the ball during subscription signup and then putting up roadblocks when they try to cancel,\u201d said Samuel Levine, director of the FTC\u2019s Bureau of Consumer Protection, in a <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2024\/06\/ftc-takes-action-against-adobe-executives-hiding-fees-preventing-consumers-easily-cancelling\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:statement;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThe FTC will continue working to protect Americans from these illegal business practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dana Rao, Adobe&#8217;s general counsel and chief trust officer said that the company would fight the FTC in court. In a <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/news.adobe.com\/news\/news-details\/2024\/Adobes-Statement-Regarding-Federal-Trade-Commission-Complaint\/default.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:statement;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">statement<\/a> published on the company&#8217;s website, Rao said: &#8220;Subscription services are convenient, flexible and cost effective to allow users to choose the plan that best fits their needs, timeline and budget. Our priority is to always ensure our customers have a positive experience. We are transparent with the terms and conditions of our subscription agreements and have a simple cancellation process. We will refute the FTC\u2019s claims in court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FTC said that it took action against Adobe after receiving complaints from consumers around the country who said that they were not aware of Adobe\u2019s early termination fee. It noted that Adobe continued the practice despite being aware of consumers\u2019 confusion. Any consumers who reached out to Adobe\u2019s customer service to cancel their subscription encountered other obstacles like dropped calls and chats and being transferred to multiple representatives, the FTC\u2019s statement adds.<\/p>\n<p>The FTC\u2019s action follows a wave of customer outrage over Adobe\u2019s latest terms of service. Users were <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Adobe\/comments\/1d9qvfn\/megathread_discussion_around_creative_cloud_terms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:concerned;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">concerned<\/a> that Adobe\u2019s vague language suggested that the company could freely use their work to train its generative AI modes.
