Just over one year after their split, Joe Alwyn<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>opened up about his breakup from\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in a new interview for\u00a0The Times<\/em><\/a>,<\/a> published on Saturday, June 15. The\u00a0Boy Erased\u00a0<\/em>actor, 33, was asked if he\u2019d listened to his ex\u2019s latest album\u00a0The Tortured Poets Department<\/em>, which has songs on it that some fans have speculated was about their breakup after over six years together. Joe gave a pretty level response to the question. \u201cThis isn\u2019t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about,\u201d he said as he gathered his thoughts.<\/p>\n

Joe didn\u2019t directly respond to any of his ex\u2019s songs or really speak publicly about the latest Taylor, 34, album, but he spoke about how strange it is to work through a split in the public eye. \u201cI would hope that anyone and everyone can [empathize] and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it\u2019s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in,\u201d he said, via Entertainment Tonight<\/em>.<\/a> \u201cSo you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Mary Queen of Scots\u00a0<\/em>actor explained that he understands and has \u201cmade my peace\u201d with the fact that there\u2019s \u201calways going to be a gap\u201d between what\u2019s public knowledge and the nuances of his personal life. Still, he said that he felt like he was \u201cin a really good place in my life\u201d and emphasized that he felt \u201cgood\u201d both \u201cprofessionally and personally.\u201d<\/p>\n

At another point, the interviewer asked if he\u2019d been in touch with Taylor, and he tiptoed around the question. \u201cI\u2019m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn\u2019t want to just open the door to things like that right now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
