Miley Cyrus<\/a><\/strong> recalled the moment her godmother Dolly Parton<\/a> <\/strong>got real with her prior to her 2024 Grammy performance.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c[Dolly] isn\u2019t afraid to have the tough conversations,\u201d Miley, 31, said during a recent appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman<\/a><\/i>. \u201cA tough conversation I had with her: I told her, \u2018I\u2019m wondering if I\u2019m going to do the Grammys or not,\u2019 And she said, \u2018Well of course you\u2019re going to do the Grammys, and you\u2019re not just going to show up but you\u2019re going to show off. And you\u2019re going to be everything that you are sitting right here in front of me\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnd she said, \u2018And don\u2019t forget about the beauty. The hair, the makeup, the whole show. It\u2019s armor for us,\u201d\u2019 Miley added.<\/span><\/p>\n The 78-year-old country singer\u2019s manifestation really set the tone because 2024 marked a milestone for the Disney alum. Miley won her first Grammys for Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year. Alongside this big triumph, she also performed her hit \u201cFlowers,\u201d<\/a> which she shouted in excitement \u201cI Just Won My First Grammy!\u201d during the performance.<\/span><\/p>\n That Godmother instinct is never wrong, and \u201cThe Climb\u201d singer has always known that. \u201c[Dolly\u2019s] always said this to me: \u2018You do you, and I\u2019ll do me, and together we\u2019ll be us.\u2019 So she wasn\u2019t telling me to be Dolly, she wasn\u2019t telling me to be fabulous and hide behind the sparkles and the hair. She was telling me to be me,\u201d she recalled on the talk show.<\/span><\/p>\n Miley has been very public about her relationship with her Godmother including having her as a co-host on NBC\u2019s NYE Celebration and as guest star during her <\/span>Hannah Montana<\/span><\/i><\/a> days.<\/span><\/p>\n During her Disney Channel era, she admitted to finding it hard to differentiate herself from Hannah. \u201cI mean, Hannah Montana is famous for wearing a blonde wig and kind of having this other persona that she can turn off and be a regular girl by day and have this superstar life at night,\u201d she told David. \u201cI realize that\u2019s something that Dolly has been doing pretty much her entire life\u2026Now, she\u2019s always in the wig and she\u2019s always in the Dolly\u2026It\u2019s not about the external performance of her creating the character.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Their bond has been something special ever since Miley was born. Dolly recalled her relationship with her granddaughter during an interview on <\/span>Good Morning America<\/span><\/i><\/a> in 2009<\/span>. \u201c<\/span><\/i>I\u2019ve known her since she was a baby\u2026Her father\u2019s a friend of mine, and when she was born, he said, \u2018You just have to be her godmother,\u2019 and I said, \u2018I accept\u2019\u2026We never did do a big ceremony, but I\u2019m so proud of her, love her. and she\u2019s just like one of my own,\u201d the artist shared.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
