Is a pirate\u2019s life for Austin Butler<\/strong><\/a>? The 32-year-old Oscar nominee reacted to the rumors that he could possibly be joining the Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em><\/a> franchise during a recent interview. Upon being asked about the speculation, Austin responded, \u201cOh really? I haven\u2019t heard about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em>,\u201d the Dune: Part Two<\/em> star told Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Monday, June 10. \u201cThat just reminded me of when I was a kid. In elementary school, we had to make these posters that had like your favorite music, your favorite actors. And at that time \u2014 I don\u2019t know what grade, it must have been fourth grade, third grade or something \u2014 but it was Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em> was on there [sic].\u201d<\/p>\n

As for whether or not he\u2019d set sail with the famous Disney franchise, Austin said, \u201cIt\u2019s a hard one to touch because they did it so well. I loved what Johnny<\/strong> [Depp<\/strong>]<\/a> did with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

During a separate interview at one of the premieres for his latest film, The Bikeriders<\/em>, Austin expressed his hesitation in joining such an iconic franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I mean, it\u2019s always \u2026 I mean, I haven\u2019t \u2026 that is not real at all, you know?\u201d he told a reporter, according to an X video<\/a> shared by the Associated Press earlier this week. \u201cBut I think that any time you\u2019re stepping into something that other people have done very well, you want to make sure that you would bring something special to that story or whatever. I loved the first [movie], so I don\u2019t know if I want to necessarily jump into something.\u201d<\/p>\n

If a reboot starring the Elvis<\/em> actor<\/a>\u00a0happens, Austin noted that it would \u201chave to be done so well, but I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

The last time Disney fans saw Johnny, 61, in his Captain Jack Sparrow attire was in 2017\u2019s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales<\/em>. Original cast members Keira Knightley<\/strong><\/a> and Orlando Bloom<\/strong> <\/a>briefly reprised their roles as Elizabeth and Will Turner, respectively, in a post-credits scene, which features Will and Elizabeth sleeping while a shadow of Davy Jones approaches their bed. After Will awakens to find no one, he goes back to sleep \u2014 unaware of the wet floor.<\/p>\n

A reboot is still in development for the franchise, but it will not include Johnny.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
