Celine Dion<\/a><\/strong> opened up about her battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome in an interview with Hoda Kotb,<\/a><\/strong> set to release on Tuesday, June 11. <\/span>\u201cIt\u2019s like somebody\u2019s strangling you. It\u2019s like somebody\u2019s pushing your larynx this way,\u201d shared the 56-year-old.<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cMy Heart Will Go On\u201d singer added, \u201cIt can be in the abdominal. It can be in the spine, in the ribs. But it feels like if I point my feet, it will stay in it\u2026Or if I cook, my fingers or my hands will get in position. It\u2019s cramping, but it\u2019s like you\u2019re in the position of you cannot unlock them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The health update comes after she revealed her diagnosis in December 2022. <\/span>\u201cI have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder, and I wasn\u2019t ready to say anything before, but I\u2019m ready now,\u201d Celine said in the teaser for her new documentary I Am: Celine Dion,<\/em> set to release through Prime Video on June 25.<\/span><\/p>\n

The autoimmune disease is <\/span>\u201ca rare disorder of motor function characterized by involuntary stiffness of axial muscles and superimposed painful muscle spasms, which are often induced by startle or emotional stimuli,\u201d per the Mayo Clinic<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In January, when announcing her documentary via an Instagram post, she noted, <\/span>\u201cThis last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As a result of battling through SPS, Celine had to cancel her Courage World Tour<\/em>. <\/span>\u201cIt\u2019s not hard to do a show, you know? It\u2019s hard to cancel a show\u2026I\u2019m working hard every day but I have to admit, it\u2019s been a struggle. I miss it so much, the people, I miss them. If I can\u2019t run, I\u2019ll walk. If I can\u2019t walk, I\u2019ll crawl. But I won\u2019t stop,\u201d admitted the \u201cIt\u2019s All Coming Back to Me Now\u201d hitmaker.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTrying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible,\u201d she captioned an Instagram post made on International Stiff-Person Syndrome Awareness Day on March 15 .<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
