{"id":229733,"date":"2024-06-08T01:22:48","date_gmt":"2024-06-08T01:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/08\/adobe-updates-terms-and-clarifies-content-access-amid-user-concerns\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:17:35","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:17:35","slug":"adobe-updates-terms-and-clarifies-content-access-amid-user-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/08\/adobe-updates-terms-and-clarifies-content-access-amid-user-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Adobe updates terms and clarifies content access amid user concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/adobe-launches-new-image-generation-ai-comparison\/\">Adobe<\/a> has clarified its terms and conditions after <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/adobe-causes-user-outrage-with-a-change-in-photoshop-tocs-that-lets-it-access-all-your-content\/\">users expressed outrage<\/a> when they were denied access to its products without agreeing to an updated Terms and Conditions document.<\/p>\n<p>The controversy stemmed from a provision in the document stating that Adobe could access users\u2019 content using both \u201cautomated and manual methods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The updated terms read:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve made some changes to the Adobe General Terms of Use regarding the use of Software and Services, including:<br \/>\u2022 Clarified that we may access your content through both automated and manual methods, such as for content review (Sections 2.2 and 4.1)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Users criticized this decision and declined to accept the change, with some noting that they are involved in projects governed by non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), which prohibit sharing information with unauthorized parties.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here it is. If you are a professional, if you are under NDA with your clients, if you are a creative, a lawyer, a doctor or anyone who works with proprietary files \u2013 it is time to cancel Adobe, delete all the apps and programs. It stated: \u201cWe have received a number of questions resulting from this update and want to provide some clarity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain committed to transparency, protecting the rights of creators, and enabling our customers to do their best work.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>What is different in Adobe\u2019s terms and conditions<\/h2>\n<p>Adobe announced, \u201cThe focus of this update was to be clearer about the improvements to our moderation processes that we have in place. Given the explosion of <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/adobe-expands-generative-ai-features-to-video-editing-software-premiere-pro\/\">Generative AI<\/a> and our commitment to responsible innovation, we have added more human moderation to our content submissions review processes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_308060\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-308060\" style=\"width: 1596px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-308060 size-full\" alt=\"Adobe terms and conditions: 2. Credit: Adobe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Originally, the terms regarding access to user content stated, \u201cWe will only access, view, or listen to your Content\u2026through both automated and manual methods, but only in limited ways, and only as permitted by law.\u201d This statement was later modified to \u201cmay\u201d access content, which raised concerns among users.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Adobe added, \u201cTo be clear, Adobe requires a limited license to access content solely for the purpose of operating or improving the services and software and to enforce our terms and comply with law, such as to protect against abusive content.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>When Adobe applications and services may access content<\/h2>\n<p>Adobe said that its apps and services require access to user content to fulfill their intended functions, such as opening and editing files, creating thumbnails, and generating previews for sharing.<\/p>\n<p>This access also allows advanced cloud-based features like Photoshop Neural Filters, Liquid Mode, and the Remove Background tool. Users interested in learning more about how their content is managed and how they can control its use can find detailed information on Adobe\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/manage-account\/using\/machine-learning-faq.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dedicated help page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When content is processed or stored on Adobe\u2019s servers, the company says that it uses various technologies and processes. These include escalation to manual (human) review to screen for illegal or abusive content, such as activities that show spam or phishing.<\/p>\n<p>It reiterated that it does not train its Firefly Gen AI models on customer content. Firefly generative AI models are reportedly trained on a dataset of licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and public domain content where copyright has expired.
