NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BoeingSpace\/status\/1796906795077877917\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:entered the Starliner capsule;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">entered the Starliner capsule<\/a> and completed necessary checks by 10:08AM ET. Less than 30 minutes after the astronauts entered the capsule, the CEO ULA <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/torybruno\/status\/1796913932205993988\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:tweeted;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">tweeted<\/a> that the company was &#8220;working an issue with topping valves on the ground side&#8221; and that it was running the fix through its Software Integration Lab (SIL) before it&#8217;s executed. In the end, ULA was able to <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ulalaunch\/status\/1796920943178076606\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:implement a workaround;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">implement a workaround<\/a>, and the spacecraft lifted off at 10:52am ET.<\/p>\n<p>Back on May 6, the companies scrubbed the flight two hours after it was originally scheduled to launch after their ground teams detected &#8220;anomalous behavior by the pressure regulation valve in the liquid oxygen tank of the Centaur upper stage of the ULA Atlas V launch vehicle.&#8221; The valve was replaced and the Starliner teams were ready to make another launch attempt when they encountered another issue: They found a &#8220;small helium leak&#8221; in the spacecraft&#8217;s service module.<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"886cab3e-9451-52b7-88c4-9efd0cbd8b36\">\n<blockquote placeholder=\"\" data-theme=\"light\" class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>The astronauts are beginning ingress into <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Starliner?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:#Starliner;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">#Starliner<\/a> \u2014 taking their seats in the spacecraft. Teams will assist in a series of checks, including umbilical hook ups, communications checks and suit checks. Wilmore and Williams will spend eight days on the ISS conducting tests to help determine whether the Starliner is ready for regular flights to the orbiting laboratory.
