Oppo believes that smartphones will become the most important personal AI devices and it has taken on a mission to bring AI to the masses through them \u2013 Oppo has committed to bringing AI to all its smartphone product lines and aims to have 50 million users by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
The company is working on AI tech in-house, but has also partnered with the likes of Google, Microsoft, MediaTek and others to deliver a wide variety of experiences. Oppo has already filed over 5,000 patents related to AI, around 70% of which are in the field of AI imaging.<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t just talk either, this January Oppo became the first company to deploy an LLM with 7 billion parameters on a smartphone (the AndesGPT model<\/a> on the Find X7 series). It was tasked with natural language comprehension and things like summarizing phone calls. The company has already rolled out 100+ generative AI features to its phones this year.<\/p>\n It\u2019s exactly generative AI that seems to be the focus \u2013 that 50 million user target specifically calls out users of generative AI. This includes uses for photo editing \u2013 for example, removing an object from a photo and filling in the hole. Oppo says an average user taps this feature 15 times a day. Generative AI can also help you create fun visuals to share on social media.<\/p>\n LLMs, or Large Language Models, will be used for quickly transcribing spoken word and doing real-time translation, for example. Oppo also envisions cross-device uses where desktop and phone AI features work hand in hand.<\/p>\n A Hybrid AI architecture is being developed, which will use both on-device and cloud AI. The latter is where Google comes in \u2013 the Reno12 series and the next Find X flagship (which are headed for a global release soon) will use Google\u2019s Gemini model. Additionally, they will have an AI Toolbox with AI Writer and AI Recording Summary features.<\/p>\n The partnership with Microsoft focuses on improving the connectivity between desktop AI and phone AI and bringing fast and accurate responses through both natural voice and text.<\/p>\n The Oppo-MediaTek partnership is more focused on hardware \u2013 the two companies are collaborating on tuning chips to improve the storage and computational efficiency of future Oppo phones.<\/p>\n \u201cWe believe that the intelligent OS will be embedded with AI Agents and support multimodal interaction, meanwhile the third-party services will be provided in a more flexible way.
