The <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2014-08-25-twitch-confirms-amazon-purchase.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Amazon-owned;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Amazon-owned<\/a> company <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:8;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/twitchsupport\/status\/1798058127025479685\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:said;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:8;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">said<\/a> on Tuesday that Twitch Tier 1 subscriptions in the US will increase from $4.99 to $5.99 on July 11. This is the first time the monthly cost has gone up for American subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of our efforts to help creators build and grow their communities worldwide, the following countries received subscription price adjustments as a part of Local Subscription Pricing,\u201d the company <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:9;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/help.twitch.tv\/s\/article\/local-sub-price-countries?language=en_US\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wrote;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:9;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">wrote<\/a> in a support article.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate X reply, the company <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:10;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TwitchSupport\/status\/1798043468004229163\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:clarified;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:10;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">clarified<\/a> that streamers will still earn the same 50 to 70 percent through Twitch\u2019s revenue-sharing program, so they will earn more per subscription (likely the rationalization for the questionable \u201cIt\u2019s for the creators!\u201d framing). However, streamers\u2019 earning extra <em>revenue<\/em> depends on Twitch\u2019s subscriber numbers staying the same or increasing. An unpopular price hike could lead to a loss of paying subscribers if enough people shirk the increase.<\/p>\n<p>Twitch had warned this day would come. When the company <a data-i13n=\"cpos:11;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/twitch-is-increasing-channel-subscription-prices-for-the-first-time-181202078.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:raised subscription prices;cpos:11;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">raised subscription prices<\/a> in Canada, Australia, Turkey and the UK in February, Chief Monetization Officer Mike Minton <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:12;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.dexerto.com\/twitch\/twitch-warns-us-sub-price-increases-extremely-likely-after-international-updates-2545211\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:added;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:12;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">added<\/a> that a US subscription increase would \u201cprobably\u201d arrive sometime this year. And here we are.<\/p>\n<p>The company has had a rough 2024, and we aren\u2019t even at the halfway point.
