Selena Gomez<\/strong> <\/a>didn\u2019t want another same old love that would tear her up, which is why she was \u201calone for five years.\u201d The 31-year-old multi-hyphenate recalled her single years before meeting boyfriend Benny Blanco<\/strong><\/a> during her latest interview with TIME<\/em><\/a>. While speaking to the publication in a profile published on Wednesday, May 29, Selena noted that many people \u201care afraid\u201d of being single, but she \u201cgot used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was alone for five years, and I got really used to it,\u201d the \u201cLove On\u201d artist explained. \u201cA lot of people are afraid of being alone, and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While using those years for self-reflection, Selena \u201ccame up with [her] plan,\u00a0which was [she] was going to adopt at 35 if [she] had not met anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now that she\u2019s found true love with Benny, 36, Selena noted that it \u201cjust happens when you least expect it.\u201d Since she and Benny were initially friends and collaborators for years, the Only Murders in the Building<\/em> actress revealed that she once asked him to be a matchmaker for her before they started dating in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just cherish every moment with him,\u201d Selena told the publication, before gushing, \u201cI don\u2019t know what the future holds, but I do know that he\u2019s not going anywhere any time soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Benny told Howard Stern<\/strong> on his SiriusXM show that he is looking forward to starting a family one day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanna have kids, that\u2019s my next goal,\u201d the record producer said on The Howard Stern Show.<\/em> \u201cI have a lot of godkids; I got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in his interview, Benny agreed with Howard that marriage<\/a> is in his and Selena\u2019s future. However, he doesn\u2019t have a proposal date set just yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI gotta get my act together,\u201d he joked, before adding, \u201cWhen I look at her \u2026 I\u2019m always just like, I don\u2019t know a world where it could be better than this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Selena and Benny have been dating since mid-2023. They went public with their romance in December of that year when the \u201cSingle Soon\u201d artist was responding to fans online, who were asking about her relationship status. Over the past several months, the pair have openly shared sweet photos<\/a> together via social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before falling in love with Benny, Selena\u2019s most public and longest relationship was with her Justin Bieber<\/a>.<\/strong> They dated on and off from 2010 to 2018, and he tied the knot with his wife, Hailey Bieber<\/strong><\/a>, later that year.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
