Brian Austin Green<\/strong><\/a> and Megan Fox<\/strong><\/a> figured out what the \u201cnumber one\u201d rule is as co-parents. The 50-year-old actor opened up about how he and the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen<\/em> star, 37, raise their sons \u2014 Noah, Bodhi and Journey<\/a> \u2014 as divorced parents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number one [rule] is always make sure that everything is centered around the experience of the kids,\u201d Brian told E! News<\/em><\/a> on Monday, April 15. \u201cPeople make a mistake of thinking that they\u2019re gonna do things so the separation doesn\u2019t affect the kids, and of course, it\u2019s gonna affect the kids. The only choice you have is how it affects the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to what\u2019s best for their children, Brian noted that he and Megan sometimes need to\u00a0\u201cpick [their] battles\u201d and explained how their relationship as co-parents is different from when they were together.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe person that you were with that you\u2019re now separated from, you guys are separated for a reason,\u201d the Beverly Hills, 90210<\/em> alum said. \u201cBecause you didn\u2019t get along. So, you can\u2019t expect to then get along after the fact in raising your kids. So, you have to decide, \u2018OK, it\u2019s not about us getting along anymore. It\u2019s about us co-parenting, which is a totally different situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Megan and Brian were married from 2010 until they split in 2020. The former couple had an on-and-off relationship, as the Jennifer\u2019s Body<\/em> actress filed for divorce in 2015, but they called it off at the time. Despite permanently breaking up, the exes have remained amicable for the sake of their children and have openly discussed their teamwork as co-parents.<\/p>\n

Last month, Megan appeared on the \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast and admitted<\/a> a few of her faults when she was with Brian.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was young and really should not have been in a relationship of that level of commitment and that magnitude,\u201d she told podcast host Alex Cooper. \u201cI think it would be easy for me to lean into and complain about, or let it seem like that relationship was one way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Transformers<\/em> film star confessed that she\u2019d \u201cfall in love\u201d<\/a> with co-stars while she and Brian were together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would go to work and fall in love because I was a kid and, yeah, I never had the full freedom to be single and experience that life,\u201d Megan noted, adding that she \u201cwas not a great girlfriend to Brian.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
