You\u2019ll need to link your Substack account before you can begin listening.<\/p>\n<p>Some Substack podcasts are free, and you can listen to those immediately after linking accounts. For paid programs, you\u2019ll still need to pony up for those on Substack before you can hear them on Spotify. (The move is less about giving you freebies and more about expanding Substack\u2019s audience.) But you don\u2019t need Spotify Premium; you can listen to the same Substack content whether you\u2019re on a free or paid Spotify plan.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify says podcast creators retain complete control of their content, subscriber bases and revenue. When setting it up, podcast makers need to choose an option to sync with Spotify in their Creator Account settings. That will instantly make all of their current and future programming available on the streaming platform.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership is built on the Spotify Open Access API, which publishers like <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/calm-is-bringing-sleep-meditation-and-relaxation-shows-to-spotify-130009932.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Calm;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Calm<\/a>, <em>The Economist<\/em>, Freakonomics Radio, Patreon, <em>Dateline NBC<\/em> and <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em> also use to tap into the music platform\u2019s listener base.
