Annie Leibovitz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nWhile speaking with the publication in its cover story that was published on Tuesday, April 9, the Dune: Part Two<\/em> star opened up about the character she is playing in Challengers<\/em>: Tashi Duncan.<\/p>\nAnnie Leibovitz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cI mean, listen, she takes the s**t to a whole new level,\u201d Zendaya explained while recalling how she trained for the part. \u201c[But] I\u2019d say, yeah, I\u2019m competitive, in the sense that I want to work hard. and I try to not be competitive with anyone else. I try to just be like, I already did that, OK, so now I got to do better.\u201d<\/p>\nAnnie Leibovitz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThe movie star related to her character through their similar competitiveness, which is \u201csometimes\u201d a \u201cbit crippling\u201d for her in reality.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess where I was trying to empathize with my character \u2014 because it\u2019s my job, even though I think she does some s**t that I would absolutely never do \u2014 is in how nobody\u2019s like, \u2018Tashi, are you OK? What do you need?\u2019\u201d Zendaya pointed out. \u201cShe\u2019s just always running s**t, and nobody is taking any of that off of her shoulders. \u2026 She\u2019s making all the decisions. She is doing all the stuff. So, I imagine that she\u2019s really just calling all the shots. She\u2019s, like, everybody\u2019s mom.\u201d<\/p>\nAnnie Leibovitz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nSince fans know her from roles that aren\u2019t as controversial as the character of Tashi (since Tashi uses sex and some manipulation to pit two male athletes against each other), Zendaya admitted that she thought the character was a \u201clittle crazy\u201d after first reading the script.<\/p>\n
\u201cTypically, I play the person that ultimately is easier to empathize with,\u201d she said. \u201cThere was something about her that felt very, \u2018Oh, damn.\u2019 Even I was kind of scared of her.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
