\u201cNothing ever really ends, does it?\u201d Supernatural<\/em><\/a> gave its fan base 15 seasons of action, horror, comedy and heart-wrenching emotion. Series stars Jensen Ackles<\/strong><\/a>, Jared Padalecki<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0Misha Collins<\/strong><\/a> and the entire cast delivered viewers with some of the most memorable scenes in television history, as the show became the longest-running American fantasy TV show. Years after season 15 aired, the SPN family is wondering if a 16th season could be in the cards.<\/p>\n

Is \u2018Supernatural\u2019 Getting a Season 16?<\/h2>\n

As of now, Supernatural<\/em> has not been given a 16th season. However, Jared spoke with Collider<\/a><\/em> about the rumors surrounding the show\u2019s future in April 2024, noting that he and Jensen don\u2019t want to just throw a new season together quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cJensen and I feel so strongly about our show that we had for 15 years together that we don\u2019t wanna just do it, just to do it,\u201d the Walker<\/em> star explained. \u201cWe don\u2019t wanna go, \u201cHey, I have two weeks off in June. Let\u2019s go ahead and shoot 10 pages a day, just so we can have some more content.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Jared sounded optimistic though and pointed out, \u201cIf and when Supernatural<\/em> comes back, it\u2019s going to be a labor of love, and we\u2019re gonna put every hour in to make sure that it\u2019s as true to the canon and to the fandom and to the story and to the characters as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked whether he\u2019d reprise his role of Sam, he replied \u201cthe answer is \u2018yes.\u2019 I just don\u2019t know when I\u2019m available. I don\u2019t know when [Jensen\u2019s] available. But again, my answer is \u2018yes.’\u201d<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the year, fans noticed that Supernatural\u2019<\/em>s official Instagram<\/a> account started posting scene stills once again. Though there has been no confirmation of the show\u2019s return, fans are convinced that this was a clue for its potential renewal.<\/p>\n

Why Did \u2018Supernatural\u2019 End?<\/h2>\n

Jensen, Jared and Misha broke fans\u2019 hearts when they shared a video<\/a> to social media in 2019, announcing the show\u2019s end.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just told the crew that even though we\u2019re very excited to be moving into our 15th season, it will be our last,\u201d Jensen said while standing beside Misha and Jared. \u201cFifteen years of a show that has certainly changed my life, I know it\u2019s changed these two guys\u2019 lives, and we just wanted you to here from us that though we\u2019re excited about next year, it will be the finale.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jared added, \u201cWe\u2019ve cried some tears, and we\u2019ll cry some more, but we\u2019re grateful and we\u2019re going to work all that emotion into next season.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the cast and crew, they collectively agreed to end the show at the time. However, Jensen\u2019s spinoff, The Winchesters<\/em><\/a>, was unfortunately axed after just one season.<\/p>\n

Why Did \u2018The Winchesters\u2019 Get Canceled?<\/h2>\n

Jensen and his wife, Daneel Ackles<\/strong><\/a>, released the prequel show The Winchesters<\/em> in 2022. It included his character Dean\u2019s narration of the plot, which focused on the love story of his parents, John and Mary Winchester. However, after just one season, the show was canceled by early 2023.<\/p>\n

Via X (formerly known as Twitter), Jensen implied that the reason behind the cancelation was due to the 2023 WGA strike and a \u201cnetwork shift.\u201d At the time, The CW had changed leadership, and many shows at the time had been axed by the network, including Gotham Knights<\/em> and Walker: Independence<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And to all those who brought this show to life,\u201d Jensen tweeted in 2023. \u201cI couldn\u2019t be more proud of what we all did together. But as they say\u2026 timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike\u2026 welp\u2026 that\u2019s some unfortunate timing. Sleep well dear @WinchestersOnCW\u2026 until we meet again.
