Beyonc\u00e9<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s cover of The Beatles\u2019 single \u201cBlackbird\u201d has garnered praise from the song\u2019s original songwriter: Paul McCartney<\/strong><\/a>. The 81-year-old singer-songwriter penned an open note to the Cowboy Carter<\/em> <\/a>artist, 42. In it, Paul revealed that Bey called to thank him for letting her cover his song.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so happy with @beyonce\u2019s version of my song \u2018Blackbird,’\u201d Paul captioned an Instagram<\/a> post on Thursday, April 4. \u201cI think she does a magnificent version of it, and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place. I think Beyonc\u00e9 has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it!\u201d<\/p>\n

The British musician then described the moment when Bey called him up after she recorded her cover of his song.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke to her on FaceTime, and she thanked me for writing it and letting her do it,\u201d Paul continued. \u201cI told her the pleasure was all mine, and I thought she had done a killer version of the song.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cHere Comes the Sun\u201d artist then recalled witnessing the civil rights movement in the 1960s in addition to the racism sweeping America, primarily across the South at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw the footage on the television in the early \u201960s of the black girls being turned away from school, I found it shocking, and I can\u2019t believe that still in these days there are places where this kind of thing is happening right now,\u201d Paul added. \u201cAnything my song and Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s fabulous version can do to ease racial tension would be a great thing and makes me very proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyonc\u00e9 released her country-themed album on March 29. Cowboy Carter<\/em> includes multiple duets with other artists, such as Dolly Parton<\/strong> and Miley Cyrus<\/strong><\/a>. Despite the message that Bey explained her album conveys, she has faced backlash for the new music. Azealia Banks<\/strong> previously called the album \u201clittle Bey on the prairie\u201d in a social media rant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During Bey\u2019s iHeartRadio Music Awards<\/a> acceptance speech for the Innovator Award, she seemingly referred<\/a> to the criticism she\u2019s faced over hew new music.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing an innovator is seeing what everyone believes is impossible,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing an innovator often means being criticized, which often will test your mental strength.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
