Last night, lifelong Seattle Mariners fan Benjamin Gibbard<\/a> got to perform \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner\u201d at T-Mobile Park before the Mariners\u2019 home opener against the Boston Red Sox. The Death Cab for Cutie<\/a> frontman stood just in front of home plate to sing the national anthem. Watch Gibbard\u2019s performance, which preceded a tough loss<\/a> for the home team, below.<\/p>\n Gibbard has performed at Mariners games a handful of times: Death Cab for Cutie played covers<\/a> of \u201cTake Me Out to the Ball Game\u201d and \u201cCenterfield\u201d on Opening Day in 2010, and Gibbard returned to perform \u201cCenterfield\u201d again, this time solo<\/a>, in 2020 for a particularly somber, pandemic<\/a>-era Opening Day. He\u2019s also thrown out<\/a> the first pitch at multiple games.<\/p>\n Gibbard\u2019s love of baseball is not one-sided.
