Horses are becoming increasingly popular in therapy programmes designed for people with physical, mental or emotional challenges,<\/a>\u00a0but now it seems such interactions may be stressful for horses if they don\u2019t have a choice about whether to be touched.<\/p>\n

When the horses can choose to walk away, however, they appear significantly less anxious \u2013 and they often stay away from people\u2019s hands altogether, says Katrina Merkies<\/a> at the University of Guelph in Canada. \u201cThe choice\u2026<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
