They describe this as being an addition to their \u2018existing approach\u2019 to how they treat political content.<\/p>\n<p>The feature has been added to the \u2018Content preferences\u2019 section under account settings on Instagram. Users can choose to toggle between \u2018Limit <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/metas-threads-app-to-feature-political-discussions-in-new-todays-topics-test\/\">political content<\/a> from people you don\u2019t follow\u2019 and not limiting this. The default is set to the former option.<\/p>\n<p>The photo-sharing app is synced to recently launched Threads so the update will apply to that platform too.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri took to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@mosseri\/post\/C3IjTzGvk6_\">Threads six weeks ago to update people<\/a> on this new addition: \u201cIf you follow political accounts on Threads or Instagram, we want to avoid getting between you and their content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat said, we also don\u2019t want to proactively amplify political content from accounts you don\u2019t follow\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the next few weeks we will be improving how we <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/meta-will-no-longer-prompt-political-content-across-apps\/\">avoid recommending content about politics<\/a> on recommendation surfaces \u2013 like Explore, Reels, and Suggested Users \u2013 across both Instagram and Threads\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to preserve the ability for people to choose to interact with political content, while respecting each person\u2019s appetite for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><b>\u2018People want to see less politics\u2019<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>This update comes after a report on the <a href=\"https:\/\/transparency.fb.com\/en-gb\/features\/approach-to-political-content\/\">Meta Transparency Center<\/a> which directly states that people \u201chave told us they want to see less political content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The team at Meta says this has prompted a refinement in their approach on Facebook and then other apps too.<\/p>\n<p>For Facebook, AI systems are used to consider personalized signals to understand what is meaningful for each individual user.<\/p>\n<p>Meta says this is how political content is ranked within the main Facebook feed, moving away from a ranking system based on engagement signals like how likely someone is to comment on or share content.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve discovered that those aren\u2019t reliable indicators that the content is valuable to that specific person.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Featured image: Via the <a href=\"https:\/\/about.instagram.com\/blog\/announcements\/continuing-our-approach-to-political-content-on-instagram-and-threads\/\">Instagram blog<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/>[ad_2]<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/meta-launches-opt-out-setting-to-limit-visibility-of-politics\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] It\u2019s now easier to avoid seeing political content across Instagram and Threads thanks to the new opt-out setting.
