The two companies say the Snapdragon version of Chrome shows \u201ca dramatic performance improvement.\u201d The new Chrome variant is available for download today.<\/p>\n<p>Although there are already <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/lenovo-made-its-first-think-pad-powered-by-a-snapdragon-chip-080035789.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Snapdragon Windows laptops;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Snapdragon Windows laptops<\/a> you can buy, today\u2019s announcement is mainly about paving the way for upcoming devices running on the <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/the-snapdragon-x-elite-is-qualcomms-most-powerful-chip-to-date-190004830.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Snapdragon X Elite;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Snapdragon X Elite<\/a>. Qualcomm says the chip will far surpass the speed of its <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/qualcomm-8cx-gen-3-7c-gen-3-arm-chipsets-windows-gaming-handheld-230008247.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 line;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 line<\/a>. (But if you have a currently available Snapdragon-running computer, the new Chrome for Snapdragon will work there, too.)<\/p>\n<p>Google sees the companies\u2019 long history of <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/qualcomm-reveals-its-making-a-risc-v-chip-for-android-wearables-124002464.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:working together;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">working together<\/a> on Android (dating back 16 years) as a perk as Qualcomm tries to eat into Intel\u2019s PC market share. \u201cOur close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies will help ensure that Chrome users get the best possible experience while browsing the Web on current ARM-compatible PCs,\u201d Google Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer wrote in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>The first Snapdragon X Elite PCs are scheduled to launch in the middle of this year. The chip is powered by 12 <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:6;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.qualcomm.com\/news\/onq\/2022\/11\/qualcomm-oryon-custom-cpu-at-center-of-next-gen-premium-experiences-on-snapdragon-platforms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Oryon cores;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:6;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Oryon cores<\/a> and has what Qualcomm says is double the CPU performance of Intel\u2019s 13th-gen Core i7-1360P and i7-1355U \u2014\u00a0while using 68 percent less power. The chip is based on a 4nm design fabricated by TSMC. Typical clock speeds range from 3.8GHz to a dual-core boost of up to 4.3GHz.<\/p>\n<p>Qualcomm even says most Windows games will <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/qualcomm-says-most-windows-games-will-work-on-its-latest-arm-laptop-chipset-152540577.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:run at nearly full speed;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">run at nearly full speed<\/a> without any need to tweak code or change assets.<\/p>\n<p>Although Intel is Qualcomm\u2019s most direct competitor in Windows, it\u2019s also trying to match or surpass what Apple has done with its <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apples-m3-chips-pro-max-003004080.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:M-series silicon;cpos:8;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">M-series silicon<\/a>.
