{"id":217069,"date":"2024-03-26T10:47:20","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T10:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/26\/asos-sales-tumble-18-despite-overhaul-efforts\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:19:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:19:55","slug":"asos-sales-tumble-18-despite-overhaul-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/26\/asos-sales-tumble-18-despite-overhaul-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"ASOS sales tumble 18% despite overhaul efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/img-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/GettyImages-173855838-e1711446643562.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<div data-cy=\"articleContent\">\n<p>Asos Plc suffered a double-digit decline in sales in the first half as the fashion retailer was forced to heavily discount clothes to clear a buildup of last season\u2019s unsold stock.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>The troubled online clothing retailer said Tuesday that sales fell 18% in the six months to March 3, which was broadly in line with guidance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asos has been struggling to revive its fortunes since the pandemic when a boom in online shopping receded and consumers prioritized their spending on essentials like food and energy rather than fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Asos rose 6% in early trading in London. The company\u2019s share price has more than halved in the past year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive Officer Jose Antonio Ramos Calamonte, who has had the top job since June 2022, has previously said Asos needs to focus its efforts on getting the most relevant fashions to customers faster. Measures he has taken include mothballing its distribution center in Lichfield, reducing its capacity and cutting costs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In May, Asos unveiled a debt restructuring deal as part of its turnaround, raising \u00a380 million ($101 million) from shareholders, including Danish fashion group Bestseller and US hedge fund Camelot Capital Partners.
