Will \u201c#KateGate<\/a>\u201d ever end? Princess Kate<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Photoshop saga continues, now that a Getty Images rep revealed that the image agency discovered \u201cinconsistencies\u201d in a picture that the 42-year-old took of the late Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong><\/a> surrounded by her grandkids. The photo was posted to social media in April 2023 in honor of what would have been the 97th birthday of the U.K.\u2019s longest-reigning monarch.<\/p>\n

The portrait featured the queen sitting on a green couch surrounded by Kate and Prince William<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s children, Prince George<\/strong>, Princess Charlotte<\/strong> and Prince Louis<\/strong><\/a>, and their royal<\/a> cousins.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday would have been Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth\u2019s 97th birthday,\u201d Buckingham Palace\u2019s caption read. \u201cThis photograph \u2014 showing her with some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren \u2014 was taken at Balmoral last summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a new statement to The Telegraph,<\/em><\/a> a Getty Rep noted, \u201cGetty Images has reviewed the image in question and placed an editor\u2019s note on it, stating that the image has been digitally enhanced at source.\u201d Pointing to \u201cseveral inconsistencies,\u201d the spokesperson highlighted a line by the late queen\u2019s skirt as well as a digital duplication of Mia Tindall\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n

News of the photo manipulation comes just one week after Kate\u2019s Instagram Mother\u2019s Day post ignited a fiasco. The Princess of Wales shared a picture of her with her kids in honor of the U.K.\u2019s day celebrating moms, and the Associated Press alerted news publications and journalists that the picture was \u201cmanipulated\u201d by its \u201csource.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image,\u201d the AP wrote in its notification to news outlets. \u201cNo replacement photo will be sent. Please remove it from all platforms, including social, where it may be visible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, Instagram added the \u201caltered photo\/video\u201d label to Kate\u2019s Instagram post.<\/p>\n

As a result of the controversy, followers of the royal family speculated that amid Kate\u2019s public absence, there were AI-generated snaps<\/a> of her circulating online. However, the Princess of Wales promptly issued an apology via X and to her Instagram Stories last week, admitting to \u201cediting\u201d the picture.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,\u201d Kate explained. \u201cI wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother\u2019s Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The worldwide interest in Kate\u2019s whereabouts<\/a> comes amid her recovery from a \u201cplanned abdominal\u201d procedure<\/a>, which took place earlier this year. Although Kensington Palace assured fans that she was recovering and would not return to public engagements until after Easter (Sunday, March 31), the Agence-France Presse (AFP) said that the palace was \u201cabsolutely not\u201d a \u201ctrusted source\u201d anymore.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
