{"id":214889,"date":"2024-03-19T15:39:42","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T15:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/19\/openai-ceo-says-chat-gpt-4-kind-of-sucks\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:20:22","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:20:22","slug":"openai-ceo-says-chat-gpt-4-kind-of-sucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/19\/openai-ceo-says-chat-gpt-4-kind-of-sucks\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI CEO says Chat GPT-4 &#8216;kind of sucks&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/content.fortune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/GettyImages-1930536646_d2f1e2-e1710857891358.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<div data-cy=\"articleContent\">\n<p>Generative artificial intelligence might be driving the markets and forcing businesses to prepare for a new potential future, but the CEO of OpenAI isn\u2019t real impressed about where the technology stands at the moment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>In an interview with computer scientist and podcaster Lex Fridman, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/03\/01\/how-much-is-openai-billionaire-sam-altman-worth\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">Sam Altman<\/a> had some surprising words about <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/03\/15\/openai-gpt-4-sutskever-magic\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">GPT-4<\/a>, the latest AI model from his company, when asked about its most impressive capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it kind of sucks, relative to where we need to get to and where I believe we will get to,\u201d Altman said. \u201cI expect that the delta between [GPT-]5 and 4 will be the same that was between 4 and 3 and I think it is our job to live a few years in the future and remember that the tools we have now are going to kind of suck, looking backward at them, and that\u2019s how we make sure the future is better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Sam Altman: OpenAI, GPT-5, Sora, Board Saga, Elon Musk, Ilya, Power &amp; AGI | Lex Fridman Podcast #419\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jvqFAi7vkBc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>GPT-4, Altman noted, was a huge advancement over GPT-3. But people who have used GPT-4 now scoff at its predecessor, which at the time seemed revolutionary. That\u2019s where he stands now, as GPT-5 gets closer to release.
