No one could have imagined that Sophie Turner <\/b><\/a>and Joe Jonas<\/b><\/a> would end their marriage. The former couple became known for their comical social media antics<\/a> and playful public appearances, but everything changed when they announced their split<\/a> in early September. Then, they got into a messy custody disagreement<\/a> that was settled on October 10, 2023.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the Jonas Brothers kicked off their 2023 tour, reports swirled<\/a> that Joe contacted divorce attorneys in Los Angeles in early September. Following Labor Day weekend, the \u201cBurnin\u2019 Up\u201d artist filed for divorce<\/a> from the Game of Thrones<\/i><\/a> alum after four years of marriage. The pair then issued a joint statement via Instagram, acknowledging their separation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,\u201d Joe and Sophie wrote on September 6. \u201cThere are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Tells Fans Not to Listen to Rumors<\/h2>\n

During a Jonas Brothers concert at L.A.\u2019s Dodger Stadium on September 9, the \u201cCake By the Ocean\u201d artist informed fans<\/a> that they shouldn\u2019t believe everything they hear.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a tough week. I just wanna say, look, if you don\u2019t hear it from these lips, don\u2019t believe it. OK?\u201d Joe said while on stage. \u201cThank you everyone for your love and support. Me and my family love you guys.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sophie Sues Joe Over the \u2018Immediate Return\u2019 of Their Daughters<\/h2>\n

On September 21, Sophie filed a lawsuit<\/a> against Joe in Manhattan for \u201cthe immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained.\u201d The estranged spouses share daughter Willa<\/strong> and a second daughter,\u00a0Delphine<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the court documents, the U.K. native claimed that she and the New Jersey native agreed over Christmas 2022 to move to her home country, England. She also alleged that they had planned to look into new schools for their eldest child. Furthermore, Sophie claimed that she \u201cfound out through the media\u201d that Joe had filed for divorce from her.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Responds to Sophie\u2019s Lawsuit<\/h2>\n

Hours after the Joan<\/i> star filed her lawsuit, a rep for Joe responded with a statement<\/a> to HollywoodLife<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case,\u201d the rep wrote. \u201cSophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rep added that Joe and Sophie \u201chad a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids\u201d and that \u201cJoe\u2019s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable coparenting setup.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe\u2019s rep continued, \u201cLess than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the U.K. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children\u2019s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the statement, the representative noted that the DNCE frontman is \u201cseeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also OK with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK. The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending,\u201d the rep wrote. \u201cWhen language like \u2018abduction\u2019 is used, it is misleading at best and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted. After being in Joe\u2019s care for the past three months at the agreement of both parties, the children are currently with their mother. Sophie is making this claim only to move the divorce proceedings to the U.K. and to remove the children from the U.S. permanently.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rep concluded Joe had \u201calready disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie\u201d and added that the reports were \u201cmade without his approval and are not consistent with his views.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amidst her lawsuit against Joe, Sophie was photographed spending time with one of his most famous ex-girlfriends, Taylor Swift<\/b><\/a>, in New York City. The women were spotted<\/a> hanging out twice so far<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sophie and Joe Reach Interim Agreement Over Their Kids<\/h2>\n

On September 25, both Sophie and Joe signed an interim order that agreed to keep their children in New York, according to Page Six<\/a>.<\/i>\u00a0 <\/span>The former couple will have to appear at a pretrial conference on October 3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sophie Reveals She and Joe Were Buying a Home in England<\/h2>\n

In court documents obtained by Page Six<\/em><\/a> on September 29, Sophie revealed that she and Joe put down a large deposit on a home in England two months before they divorced. She also included a letter from her estranged husband that he had written to the seller of the house<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen my wife and I decided we were going to spend more time in the UK and search for a permanent home, our daughter expressed three unwavering requirements: having chickens, a pony and a Wendy house,\u201d Joe wrote. \u201cI have been completely charmed by the idea of dropping my children to school on the boat and being able to spend a leisurely afternoon cruising to the pub with friends on my very own boat.\u201d<\/p>\n

The outlet reported that the sale was scheduled to be finalized on December 2, 2023. However, a source claimed that the sale was \u201cnever closed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophie and Joe Begin Mediation in New York City<\/h2>\n

The mother-of-two and her estranged spouse began mediation<\/a> in New York City on October 4, amid their split, as reported by\u00a0PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>. Sophie was photographed leaving her apartment in Manhattan with her legal team by her side. One day prior, the\u00a0New York Post\u00a0<\/em><\/a>revealed that the exes were set to begin mediation to discuss their custody and separation disagreements. Along with the mediation, the judge reportedly set a trial date for January 2 in regards to custody of their two daughters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sophie\u2019s legal team \u201cpressed\u201d for a trial date to be set ASAP, as she has a work commitment at the start of 2024. \u00a0\u201cWe have young kids, and we have the petitioner who is here now in the United States, but she has work commitments in the UK in January,\u201d they said during the hearing. Joe\u2019s ex also reassured the judge via her legal rep that they are both still seeing their kids amid the custody battle. \u201cThe parties are both seeing their children in a very unfettered way,\u201d her lawyer said. At this time, Sophie is reportedly living at one of Taylor\u2019s apartments<\/a> in the Big Apple.<\/p>\n

After day one of mediation on October 4, Sophie was seen smiling<\/a> as she returned to one of Taylor\u2019s apartments<\/a> where she\u2019s reportedly living amidst the divorce. Joe, meanwhile, left the mediation session two hours after Sophie, according to Daily Mail<\/em>. The exes did their second mediation session at the World Trade Center the following day, on October 5. Sophie was photographed taking her two daughters for a walk<\/a> after doing mediation.<\/p>\n

Sophie and Joe Settle Custody of Their Daughters<\/h2>\n

Sophie and Joe reached a temporary custody agreement on October 10, 2023, according to court documents obtained by US Weekly<\/em><\/a>. The agreement reportedly states that the former couple\u2019s daughters will stay with Sophie until October 21 and she can take them anywhere in the U.S. and to the U.K. during that time. Then, Joe will get the kids until November 2. The exes will continue to swap custody of their kids every two weeks until January 4, 2024. Joe gets the kids for Thanksgiving while Sophie will have them for Christmas,\u00a0US Weekly\u00a0<\/em>reported.<\/p>\n

Joe and Sophie Agree to Settle Divorce Privately<\/h2>\n

On October 11, the duo agreed to \u201cpursue an amicable resolution of all issues,\u201d as Joe filed to dismiss his dissolution in Miami, per court documents obtained by Page Six<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sophie Returns to Social Media After 2 Months<\/h2>\n

Sophie made her social media return to Instagram two months after announcing her split from Joe in September. In her post<\/a>, the actress discussed the ongoing global warming issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi everyone! I have been asked to spread the word about positive power,\u201d she said in the video post. \u201cAnd on doing the research and noticing the very clear effects of global warming, it\u2019s something that I really wanted to raise awareness for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joe Moves On With Stormi Bree<\/h2>\n

Most recently, Joe sparked romance rumors with actress and model\u00a0Stormi Bree<\/strong><\/a>. After the pair was spotted arriving at an airport in Cabo together (see pics here<\/a>), it wasn\u2019t long until fans speculated that they were dating. Their outing in Mexico took place on January 3, 2024, and proved to be a romantic getaway<\/a> as they then jetted off to Aspen.<\/p>\n

Joe and the brunette bombshell enjoyed some time skiing on the slopes (see pics here<\/a>) and Stormi even rocked one of Joe\u2019s hats. \u201cJoe was super smiley and [him and Bree] were just chatting and sitting together and seemed cozy,\u201d a source told\u00a0Page Six\u00a0<\/em>on January 5, 2024. Despite the speculated romance, the insider clarified that there was \u201cno PDA\u201d for Joe and Stormi in Aspen.<\/p>\n

Around the same time that Stormi and Joe enjoyed some traveling together, a source close to the two told\u00a0US Weekly<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>that their connection is growing. \u201cJoe is enjoying spending time with Stormi,\u201d the insider said to the outlet on January 4. \u201cHis main priority and focus will always be his children, but at the same time, he\u2019s putting himself out there and is open to what\u2019s to come.\u201d Although the romance is \u201cnew\u201d the source added that Joe is \u201copen\u201d to it, they added.<\/p>\n

Sophie Asks Judge to Dismiss \u2018Wrongful Retention\u2019 Claims<\/h2>\n

On January 17, 2024, TMZ<\/a> reported that Sophie has officially asked a judge to drop her \u201cwrongful retention\u201d claim from 2023. Per docs reportedly obtained by the outlet, the actress asked the judge to dismiss \u201cthe entire action,\u201d due to the former couple\u2019s reaching a custody agreement and united parenting plan in October of 2023. Though the outlet reports the judge in the case hasn\u2019t officially signed off on the request, the matter of the claim is all but over.<\/p>\n

Sophie Filed to Reopen the Divorce Case<\/h2>\n
