The Mandalorian<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>star Gina Carano<\/strong> was dropped by Lucusfilm and Disney in 2021 after sharing offensive posts on social media. At the time, she had shared a number of controversial social media posts. In one TikTok video, she compared the state of U.S. politics to Nazi Germany. \u201cJews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors\u2026even by children,\u201d she posted in a now-deleted video. In a separate post, Gina claimed that \u201chistory is edited, most people today don\u2019t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?\u201d<\/p>\n

In a March 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>,<\/em> Gina opened up for the first time about her reaction to getting fired from her Disney+ series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just laid down and cried and cried,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI curled into a fetal position. It\u2019s not that I didn\u2019t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn\u2019t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement about me after working with me \u2014 the most powerful entertainment company in the world saying that about me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gina also pointed out that she became \u201cunhirable\u201d in Hollywood following her firing. \u201cAnd then it becomes OK for other people to disrespect you,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then you\u2019re just carrying around this disrespect, and you\u2019re shouldering all this shame, and it affects your physicality, your mentality. You\u2019re just kind of hopeless.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2021, Lucasfilm released a statement about the actress\u2019 release from her show.<\/p>\n

\u201cGina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,\u201d a statement from the studio issued to Variety<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>read.<\/p>\n

She Starred in \u2018The Mandalorian\u2019<\/h2>\n

Gina played trusty sidekick and fellow bounty hunter Cara Dune in the Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>live-action series. Hailing from planet Alderaan, she has a unique arm tattoo that indicates she served as a shock trooper during the Galactic Civil War, as part of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the New Republic. The casting came after she nearly quit Hollywood. \u201c[Writer] Jon [Favreau]<\/strong> kind of just plucked me out of the desert and put me in this beautiful tropical place. And yeah, it\u2019s hard work \u2014 sometimes 18 hour days \u2014 but I don\u2019t care how hard this work is. I just absolutely love going to work; it gives me so much purpose,\u201d she said of the gig to\u00a0Refinery 29<\/em><\/a>, confessing she wasn\u2019t a big\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>fan before but is \u201c100% in\u201d now.<\/p>\n

She Appeared in \u2018Deadpool\u2019<\/h2>\n

Marvel fans may also recognize her as Angel Dust from Ryan<\/strong>\u00a0Reynolds<\/strong><\/a>\u2018\u00a0Deadpool\u00a0<\/em>movies. Gina\u2019s Angel Dust is pivotal in transforming Deadpool<\/a> \u2014 n\u00e9e Wade Wilson \u2014 into a mutant with the intention of making him an assassin. In the first film, the pair confront each other during an epic battle. \u201cMy character is big, strong, and silent. She\u2019s not got a lot to say. But I\u2019m so happy to be a part of it,\u201d she said of the role back in 2016 to\u00a0Screen<\/em> Rant<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI never knew anything about him before, but it\u2019s been really nice to be a part of a film in such a big level to see something good happen to Ryan, because he\u2019s genuinely one of the nicest actors I\u2019ve ever met,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Before getting into acting, Gina was a skilled athlete, competing in the MMA. In one of her most iconic fights, she took on Cris Cyborg in 2009 for Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg<\/em>. The historic moment marked the first time two women headlined a major MMA fight, and at the time, it broke ratings records. Gina also competed in EliteXS.<\/p>\n

Gina was born on April 16, 1982 in Dallas, Texas. Dana and Glenn are also parents to her two sisters, Kasey<\/strong> and Christi<\/strong>. Gina later moved to Las Vegas, NV with her family and graduated high school there.<\/p>\n

Gina found second chance love with Kevin Ross<\/strong> nearly 10 years after they first got together. Kevin, who is an American Muay Thai kickboxer and former mixed martial artist, confirmed their relationship publicly in 2015. \u201cWe\u2019ve kept things under wraps as to not want to invite the entire world into our relationship, although I think it\u2019s been pretty evident that we are back together,\u201d he wrote. \u201cFor those of you that don\u2019t know we dated for 4 years, were broken up for a decade then got back together on the 14th anniversary of the day we met\u2026You are my inspiration, my best friend, my everything!!!\u201d he added.
