I just saw her at her concert in Singapore and realized that she can bring together Americans and people in most countries much better than either of the candidates\u2026\u201d he posted on X, formerly <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was clear he had a great time: \u201cWatching this concert with people from all over the world made me and them feel good and connected and reminded me how powerful that universal culture is,\u201d he wrote, before posing a question about politics: \u201cWouldn\u2019t it be great if we had two candidates who could lead that culture and make smart leadership decisions too?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A day later, Dalio offered up a clarification and no, he added, he wasn\u2019t drunk when he said Swift should be the leader of the free world. \u201cThough obviously,\u201d he added, \u201cI need to work on my selfies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called his endorsement of Swift both a \u201cjoke\u201d and a \u201chalf-truth,\u201d clarifying that he thinks \u201cshe can bring people together a lot better than either of the presidential candidates and bringing people together is one of the most important things a president should do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added that her superstardom is a great illustration of America\u2019s cultural power worldwide and that politicians should take her as an example.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter all, geopolitical power is largely a battle for the hearts and minds of others,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>His ideal presidential candidate, he added, could bring people together the way Swift does, and would also be \u201csmart enough to make the right decisions and strong enough to lead most people to do the right things for most people. Unfortunately, I don\u2019t actually see such a candidate [in this election].\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Re: my\u00a0Taylor Swift for president!\u00a0comments, no I wasn&#8217;t drunk (though obviously I need to work on my selfies) and yes it was a joke, which is a half-truth. The half that\u2019s true is that I think she can bring people together a lot better than either of the presidential candidates\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nqvfEWEUZx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">https:\/\/t.co\/nqvfEWEUZx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ray Dalio (@RayDalio) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RayDalio\/status\/1766127226410393719?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">March 8, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dalio\u2019s clarification comes a day after President Biden made his <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/03\/07\/joe-biden-state-of-the-union-trump-tax-breaks-billionaires\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">State of the Union Address<\/a> in which he attacked Republicans on tax break policies and proposed increasing taxes on billionaires and corporations.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s address showed that politicians continue to be at ends and in a constant state of gridlock as November\u2019s presidential election approaches. The partisanship is so bad that the 118th Congress, whose session ends in 2025, is on track to be one of the least productive in history, passing only <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/118th-congress-track-become-productive-us-history\/story?id=106254012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">34 bills<\/a> in the first year of its two year session. For comparison, the 117th Congress, which met during Biden\u2019s first two years as President, passed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/12\/19\/118-congress-bills-least-unproductive-chart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">more than 300 laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dalio previously sounded the alarm about political polarization at <em>Fortune<\/em>\u2019s Global Forum in Abu Dhabi in November, insisting that the U.S. instead needs \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/11\/29\/ray-dalio-trump-biden-2024-presidential-election\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">a very strong middle<\/a>\u201d approach.
