The news caught the attention of EU regulators which are now probing Apple over the exact causes for terminating Epic\u2019s developer account. A European Commission spokesperson confirmed to <i>Reuters<\/i> that there is an ongoing investigation under the DMA where Apple will have to detail its actions and reasons for terminating Epic Games\u2019 developer account.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-image\" width=\"1200\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/fdn.gsmarena.com\/imgroot\/news\/24\/03\/eu-probe-apple-epic-dev-account\/inline\/-1200\/gsmarena_002.jpg\" alt=\"The EU is looking into Epic Games\u2019 banned Apple developer account\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Apple and Epic Games have a long and complex history which involved the two companies working closely over a decade ago with Unreal Engine 3 debuting on mobile for iOS back in 2010. Epic and its subsidiaries continued to develop hit iOS titles like the Infinity Blade series, as well as Apple Arcade titles, and the main reason for the ongoing tensions \u2013 Fortnite.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-image\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/fdn.gsmarena.com\/imgroot\/news\/24\/03\/eu-probe-apple-epic-dev-account\/inline\/-1200\/gsmarena_003.jpg\" alt=\"The EU is looking into Epic Games\u2019 banned Apple developer account\"\/><\/p>\n<p>It was Fortnite that set off the feud between Apple and Epic Games back in 2020 when Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsmarena.com\/epic_games_sues_apple_over_anticompetitive_behavior_on_the_app_store-news-44736.php\">removed<\/a> the hit battle royale game from the App Store for violating its policies and allowing users to bypass Apple\u2019s payment system. The two companies entered a lengthy legal battle with the US court ultimately ruling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsmarena.com\/epic_games_apple_lawsuit_ruling-news-50891.php\">in favor of Apple<\/a> though it did force Cupertino to open up to alternative in-app payments.
