In a word: Microsoft.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>OpenAI included reproductions of a number of what appeared to be internal emails between OpenAI executives and Musk, dated between 2015 and 2018, in which the Tesla Inc.<br \/>\n        <a data-track-hover=\"QuotePeek\" data-charting-symbol=\"STOCK\/US\/XNAS\/TSLA\" class=\"qt-chip negative\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/investing\/stock\/TSLA?mod=MW_story_quote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TSLA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203558040\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-3.93%<\/bg-quote><\/a><br \/>\n       chief executive and former OpenAI board member appeared to back the for-profit pivot and offered advice on how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>In his lawsuit, Musk claimed he and Altman had agreed that OpenAI would remain open-source and publicly available. But Musk appeared to go along with OpenAI\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we get closer to building AI, it will make sense to start being less open. The Open in openAI means that everyone should benefit from the fruits of AI after its built, but it\u2019s totally OK to not share the science,\u201d co-founder Ilya Sutskever wrote Musk in a 2016 email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYup,\u201d Musk replied, according to OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>In time, Musk\u2019s message became more my-way-or-the-highway, OpenAI said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn late 2017, we and Elon decided the next step for the mission was to create a for-profit entity,\u201d OpenAI said in its blog post. \u201cElon wanted majority equity, initial board control, and to be CEO. In the middle of these discussions, he withheld funding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Musk urged a massive fundraising effort, one of the emails showed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven raising several hundred million won\u2019t be enough.
