In the post, OpenAI said that Musk was lashing out after trying and failing to make the company part of <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">Tesla<\/a> Inc.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re sad that it\u2019s come to this with someone whom we\u2019ve deeply admired\u201d OpenAI wrote, \u201csomeone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us when we started making meaningful progress towards OpenAI\u2019s mission without him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0billionaire Tesla CEO,\u00a0a co-founder of OpenAI who is no longer involved in the company, alleges in his suit that the startup\u2019s close relationship with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/MSFT:US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">Microsoft Corp.<\/a>\u00a0has undermined its original mission of creating open-source technology free from undue corporate influence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo this day, OpenAI Inc.\u2019s website continues to profess that its charter is to ensure that AGI \u2018benefits all of humanity,\u2019\u201d the lawsuit said. \u201cIn reality, however, OpenAI Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-47dba8f0-0 iRbseu styledLinkColor \">Microsoft<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AGI, or artificial general intelligence, refers to a type of AI that doesn\u2019t yet exist but that could, theoretically, perform a variety of tasks better than humans.<\/p>\n<p>Musk is suing for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and claims of unfair business practices, among other grievances. He is bringing the suit in the capacity of a donor to the nonprofit parent organization as recently as 2019, and is seeking to force San Francisco-based OpenAI to stop benefitting Microsoft and Altman personally.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI did not comment publicly on Musk\u2019s suit when\u00a0it was originally\u00a0filed on Feb.\u00a029.
