Kirsten Dunst<\/strong><\/a> is looking back on her time in the Spider-Man<\/em> film franchise. During a new interview, the 41-year-old actress revealed the undesirable nickname she was given on set, pointing out that she didn\u2019t want to be referred to as such.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a joke, but on Spider-Man<\/em>, they would call me \u2018girly-girl\u2019 sometimes on the walkie-talkie,\u201d Kirsten told Marie Claire<\/em><\/a> in an interview that was published on Tuesday, March 5. \u2018We need girly-girl,\u2019 but I never said anything, like, don\u2019t call me that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feeling minimized by the experience in the early 2000s, Kirsten pointed out,\u00a0 \u201cYou didn\u2019t say anything. You just took it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Power of the Dog<\/em> star worked alongside the original franchise star, Tobey Maguire<\/strong><\/a>, at the time. He played the role of Peter Parker, a.k.a Spider-Man, and she played his love interest, Mary Jane \u201cMJ\u201d Watson. Shortly after they met, Kirsten and Tobey dated for around one year until they broke up in 2002.<\/p>\n

Kirsten\u2019s acting career took a turn after she worked with her acting coach and explored what roles she actually wanted. Now that more female filmmakers and artists have spoken out against misogynistic standards in the industry, audiences have seen a renaissance in celebrating women. (Take Greta Gerweig<\/strong>\u2018s Barbie<\/em><\/a>, for instance)<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the power in women very young,\u201d Kirsten pointed out. \u201cI think that\u2019s helped with not needing male attention in my career. \u2026 I think that\u2019s probably why I migrated to so many female directors at a younger age because I didn\u2019t want to feel that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked whether she would do another superhero movie, Kirsten replied, \u201cYes because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.\u201d She shares her sons, Ennis and James, with husband Jesse Plemons<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time that Kirsten has revealed an issue with the Sony Pictures franchise. In November 2021, the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/em> actress pointed to the \u201cextreme\u201d pay gap between her and Tobey, 48, while they worked together.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pay disparity between me and Spider-Man was very extreme,\u201d she told The Independent<\/em> <\/a>at the time. \u201cI didn\u2019t even think about it. I was just like, \u2018Oh yeah, Tobey is playing Spider-Man.\u2019 But you know who was on the cover of the second Spider-Man<\/em> poster? Spider-Man and ME.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
