Richard Lewis<\/strong>, who was widely known for his time on Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em><\/a>, died at the age of 76<\/a> on February 27, 2024. The actor had been diagnosed with\u00a0Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/a> and suffered a heart attack at the time of his tragic death. After news broke of Richards\u2019 passing, his co-star,\u00a0Larry David<\/strong><\/a>, released a statement to HBO and\u00a0Variety\u00a0<\/a><\/em>in response<\/a> to the somber news.<\/p>\n

\u201cRichard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he\u2019s been like a brother to me,\u201d Larry penned in the statement<\/a> on February 28. \u201cHe had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. The\u00a0Anything but Love\u00a0<\/em>alum married\u00a0Joyce Lapinsky<\/strong> in 2005 and remained married to her up until his death<\/a>. Richard and his wife met about seven years before they were married when she worked in music publishing, per\u00a0The US Sun<\/em><\/a>. At the time, Joyce met her leading man while in attendance at Ringo Starr<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s album release party. One year before they officially tied the knot, Richard popped the question and the two became happily engaged<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although Joyce and her late husband were married for nearly two decades, they did not welcome any children<\/a> together. During an interview before his death, Richard recalled how he and his wife often spent time with the late actress\u00a0Phyllis Diller<\/strong>. \u201cPhyllis [Diller] was like the mother I never had who loved my work, saw my shows, called me. My wife and I would go to her house often, and she\u2019d take me out to dinner,\u201d he told Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

When Richard died in February 2024, his publicist Jeff Abraham<\/strong> released a statement on behalf of Joyce. \u201cHis wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,\u201d he said, per\u00a0Deadline<\/em><\/a>. In the year before his death, Richard revealed that he was retiring to focus on his health. He took to social media<\/a> in April 2023 and released a video to share the news with his fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey listen, I just wrapped a couple of weeks ago season 12 of \u2018Curb Your Enthusiasm\u2019 and it was just an amazing season and I\u2019m so grateful to be a part of that show,\u201d Richard said. \u201cBut you know the last three and a half years, I\u2019ve had sort of a rocky time and people said, \u2018I haven\u2019t heard from you, are you still touring?\u2019\u201d He also explained that he had multiple surgeries and was under medical care.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had four surgeries back to back to back to back, it was incredible, I couldn\u2019t believe it, it was bad luck, but that\u2019s life,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m finished with stand-up. I\u2019m just focusing on writing and acting. I have Parkinson\u2019s disease but I\u2019m under a doctor\u2019s care and everything is cool.
