Richard Lewis<\/strong> died on February 27<\/a> and the news was confirmed the following day. The\u00a0Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>actor was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/a> and suffered a heart attack at the time of his death. His\u00a0publicist\u00a0Jeff Abraham<\/strong>, confirmed the heartbreaking news on February 28 and also shared a statement on behalf of Richards\u2019 wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis wife, Joyce Lapinsky<\/strong><\/a>, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,\u201d he said in the statement obtained by Deadline<\/em><\/a>. Although the couple had been married for nearly two decades, Richard and Joyce did not welcome any children together. Jamie Lee Curtis<\/strong><\/a>, 65, starred in\u00a0Anything but Love\u00a0<\/em>alongside Richard for four seasons in the late 1980s. She took to Instagram<\/a> on February 28 and penned a lengthy statement in response to the somber news<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve just read that my friend Richard Lewis has died. I remember exactly where I was when I saw a billboard of him about a stand up special on Sunset Boulevard when we were casting the ABC pilot Anything But Love<\/em> and asked the casting people to bring him in to audition to play my best friend\/maybe boyfriend, Marty Gold. I thought he was handsome,\u201d her note began. \u201cHe made me laugh, which is the one thing that a strong, capable woman, can\u2019t really do for herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The legendary actress<\/a> noted how Richard \u201cblew everyone else away\u201d on set and how much she enjoyed working with him. \u201cIt turns out he was a wonderful actor,\u201d Jamie continued. \u201cDeep and so freaking funny.\u201d Additionally, the 65-year-old admitted that Richard is the \u201creason\u201d she is sober today. \u201cHe also is the reason I am sober. He helped me. I am forever grateful for him for that act of grace alone,\u201d she penned. \u201cHe found love with Joyce and that, of course, besides his sobriety, is what mattered most to him. I\u2019m weeping as I write this. Strange way of saying thank you to a sweet and funny man. Rest in laughter, Richard. My Marty, I love you, Hannah!\u201d<\/p>\n

He currently stars on the iconic series and worked alongside Richard over the show\u2019s 12 seasons. \u201cRichard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he\u2019s been like a brother to me,\u201d he wrote in statement give to HBO, per Variety<\/em><\/a>. \u201cHe had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I\u2019ll never forgive him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cheryl shared a selfie<\/a> alongside the late comedian and gushed over him and his life in the caption. \u201cWhen I was young I had the biggest crush on Richard Lewis. He was the funniest person on stage and the most handsome comedian,\u201d the RV <\/em>star wrote. \u201cThen when I was cast on Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>, I got to work with him and it was a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cheryl, who is married to\u00a0Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/strong><\/a>, also explained how \u201cloving\u201d Richard was to everyone around him. \u201cYes, he was the comedian I fell in love with, but he was also one of the most loving people I know. He would take time to tell the people he loved what they meant to him \u2013 especially in recent years,\u201d she continued. \u201cIn between takes on Curb<\/em>, he would tell me how special I was to him and how much he loved me.
