{"id":208890,"date":"2024-02-29T05:46:16","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T05:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/29\/meta-could-demo-its-first-ar-glasses-this-fall\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:21:28","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:21:28","slug":"meta-could-demo-its-first-ar-glasses-this-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/29\/meta-could-demo-its-first-ar-glasses-this-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta could demo its first AR glasses this fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meta reportedly plans to showcase and demo <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/dreaming-big-what-could-metas-ar-glasses-look-like-upon-their-2027-launch\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">its first true augmented reality glasses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at its fall developer conference this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/meta-reveal-first-ar-glasses-fall-connect-conference-2024-2?r=US&amp;IR=T#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Business Insider, several anonymous sources claimed that the AR team is being pushed to have the high-tech glasses showcased during Meta\u2019s annual Connect conference for third-party developers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Internally known as \u201cOrion,\u201d these glasses are different from the recently introduced <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/quest-3-drives-huge-quarterly-revenue-of-over-1-billion-for-metas-reality-labs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses and the Meta Quest headsets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For one, the glasses do not feature AR properties, while the headsets are mainly used for VR gaming and mixed-reality experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the Orion project, managed by Meta\u2019s Reality Labs division responsible for AR, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and all metaverse-related initiatives, has already been in development for several years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally known as Oculus VR, Reality Labs is a division of Meta Platforms specializing in creating virtual reality and augmented reality hardware and software. This includes producing the Quest headsets and developing online platforms like Horizon Worlds. Earlier this month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/the-rise-and-fall-of-threads-zucks-struggle-to-retain-users\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">picture on Threads<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> showing supposed prototypes of the glasses on his desk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Insider reported that a source told them that at least the two glasses frames pictured \u2014 were much thicker than the available Meta smart glasses.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Quite a few glasses prototypes on Mark Zuckerberg&#8217;s desk.<\/p>\n<p>Could some of these have AR, or at least a HUD? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YPKtdDV25s\">pic.twitter.com\/YPKtdDV25s<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Heaney \u1bc5 (@Heaney555) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Heaney555\/status\/1754375577967194400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 5, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2023, Meta announced the roadmap ahead of its plans to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/dreaming-big-what-could-metas-ar-glasses-look-like-upon-their-2027-launch\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">release the AR glasses in 2027<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Before then, we may see a third generation of Ray-Ban smart glasses in 2025 that come with a \u201cneural interface band\u201d as an input device.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Other AR glasses are being developed<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Samsung has also joined the market, as the company recently secured a UK trademark for the term \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/samsung-expands-into-ar-with-glasses-trademark\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Samsung Glasses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d covering product categories like augmented reality headsets, smart glasses, and virtual reality headsets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Apple\u2019s first headset, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/apple-vision-pro-might-not-be-the-next-big-thing-going-by-preorders\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Vision Pro, has had a slow uptake<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after it was released earlier this year.
