And though there\u2019s certainly no \u201cone size fits all\u201d path to a healthy gut, many people (self included) are discovering that there is a major link between a <a href=\"https:\/\/camillestyles.com\/food\/grain-free-diet-gut-health\/\">grain-free diet and gut health<\/a>. I know: you might be throwing up your hands saying \u201cBut I thought we were <em>supposed <\/em>to be eating \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/nutrition-and-healthy-eating\/in-depth\/whole-grains\/art-20047826\">healthy whole grains<\/a>?\u201d Well, hate to break it to you, but the world of nutrition recommendations can be confusing annd often require some level of trial and error to discover what works best for your own unique body.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-eliminate-grains\">Why eliminate grains?<\/h2>\n<p>While grains aren\u2019t \u201cbad,\u201d we\u2019re focusing on how specific foods make you <em>feel<\/em>. My goal is to eat in a way that supports my overall health, and for my particular digestive system \u2014 and I\u2019m learning, a lot of other people\u2019s too \u2014 grains can be very hard on the GI tract.<\/p>\n<p>I share a lot more in my article about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/camillestyles.com\/food\/grain-free-diet-gut-health\/\">the effects of a grain-free diet on gut health<\/a>, but to make a very long story short: when I stopped eating grains, my longstanding digestive symptoms went away. And I\u2019m not the only one: Dr. William Davis says in his book\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+O4qjYZg8PWYs69iegfIYGw\"><em>Super Gut<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>(which I highly recommend for anyone dealing with unresolved digestive issues):<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWheat and grain elimination removes an extravagant source of intestinal inflammation and begins the process of healing your GI tract. \u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-makes-a-food-grain-free\">What makes a food \u201cgrain-free?\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>A grain-free diet is a little more all-encompassing than a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/camillestyles.com\/wellness\/is-gluten-bad-for-you\/\">gluten-free diet<\/a>, and it\u2019s different than having celiac disease or a gluten-intolerance. Eating \u201cgrain-free\u201d means eliminating gluten and wheat, and also corn, oats, quinoa, rice, buckwheat, rye, amaranth, and barley. Many popular diets (including paleo, Whole30, and keto) eliminate grains because of their inflammatory effects and tendency to spike blood sugar.<\/p>\n<p>I shared my own sample <a href=\"https:\/\/camillestyles.com\/food\/grain-free-meal-plan\/\">grain-free meal plan<\/a> last month, and now I\u2019m following it up with lots more grain-free recipe ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and yes, even dessert.
