Kelly Ripa<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Mark Consuelos<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>have\u00a0Wendy Williams<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to thank (or blame?) for their relationship becoming public almost 30 years ago. During the February 22 episode of\u00a0Live with Kelly & Mark<\/em><\/a>, the couple talked about their upcoming episodes that will be taped in Las Vegas, which Mark, 52, described as \u201cthe scene of the crime\u201d because of how their relationship was outed in 1996. Kelly, 53, recalled that they went to the Clark County courthouse in Vegas to get a marriage license, but an eyewitness saw them and leaked the news to Wendy, 59.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur secret wedding, discovered by none other than Wendy Williams. True facts, I\u2019m not kidding,\u201d Kelly said on her and her husband\u2019s talk show. \u201cWe\u2019d eloped. It\u2019d been a few months at that point, we\u2019d been married for three months, nobody at [All My Children<\/em><\/a>] knew we were even dating, much less married to each other. We\u2019re brushing our teeth and we\u2019ve got Wendy Williams\u2019 radio show on. We\u2019re listening, and she\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019ve got celebrity dish. \u2018 \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe celebrities, I guess they had a broad use of the term back then, was the fact that two soap stars from All My Children<\/em>, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos \u2026 eloped in Las Vegas,\u201d Kelly continued. \u201cThere was this eyewitness that worked in the Clark County courthouse that said we eloped, and the news broke, and we had to tell everybody we were married.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mom-of-three<\/a>, who met Mark in 1995 while they were soap opera co-stars, said they wanted to keep their romance a secret \u201cbecause we worked together and we didn\u2019t want it to be perceived that somehow we couldn\u2019t work together.\u201d Kelly added that trying to hide their marriage \u201cseemed like a good idea\u201d at the time, while Mark acknowledged it was a \u201charebrained idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelly and Mark eloped on May 1, 1996. They welcomed three children together, sons Michael<\/strong><\/a>, 26, and\u00a0Joaquin<\/strong><\/a>, 20 and daughter Lola<\/strong><\/a>, 22<\/p>\n

In an interview with\u00a0PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>, the couple confirmed they have plans to visit the chapel where they tied the knot when they do their show in Las Vegas. \u201cWe\u2019re definitely going back there,\u201d Mark said, noting that the venue is \u201ca very special place\u201d for him and Kelly. \u201cWe always try to make a drive by when we\u2019re in town, but this time, we\u2019re going to take the viewers inside, where it all happened,\u201d the Riverdale <\/em><\/a>actor added.<\/p>\n

Kelly looked back on her wedding to Mark and said it was \u201creally romantic\u201d and \u201cvery sweet,\u201d even though it cost less than $200<\/a>. \u201cWe cherish those memories, still to this day,\u201d she said in the interview. \u201cIt\u2019s been 28 years and we still can remember every minute of that wedding. And I mean, it was really minutes. It was like two minutes! We were very present.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
