Nicholas Hoult <\/b><\/a>dedicated himself to his role as villain Lex Luthor for Superman: Legacy<\/i><\/a>. According to a new cast photo shared by the head of DC Studios, James Gunn<\/strong><\/a>, the 34-year-old actor revealed he shaved his head for his performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the table read with the #Superman cast. Eve, Mr. Terrific, Superman\/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time [sic]!\u201d James captained the Instagram<\/a> picture on Thursday, February 22. \u201cWhat a wonderful day.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nicholas appeared in the back of the gang. Other cast members David Corenswet<\/strong> (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan<\/strong><\/a> (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo<\/strong> (Jimmy Olsen), Isabela Merced<\/strong> (Hawkgirl) and several more smiled for the snapshot. Their film is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In December 2023, James announced that the Warm Bodies <\/i>actor was officially cast as Lex after weeks of reports.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, finally I can answer, Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor in #SupermanLegacy and I couldn\u2019t be happier,\u201d the DC boss wrote via Threads<\/a> at the time. \u201cWe went out to dinner last night to celebrate & discuss how we can create a Lex that will be different from anything you\u2019ve seen before and will never forget [sic].\u201d<\/p>\n

James pointed out that many fans would have noted, \u201cWe heard this weeks ago, why didn\u2019t you tell us it was true?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBecause, although we were discussing it, it wasn\u2019t final until a couple days ago, and I don\u2019t want to tell you all something that isn\u2019t certain,\u201d the filmmaker concluded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nicholas, however, was initially in talks to play Superman before David was selected. The character Lex Luthor has been played by a handful of industry big leagues \u2014 Jesse Eisenberg<\/b><\/a> in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/i> and Justice League<\/i>, Kevin Spacey<\/b><\/a> in Superman Returns<\/i> and Gene <\/b>Hackman<\/strong><\/a> in the 1970s and \u201880s Superman<\/i> flicks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t Nicholas\u2019 first rodeo in an action movie. He previously played Hank in the X-Men<\/i> franchise. Most recently, the British actor starred as an egotistical villain in The Menu <\/i>and the protagonist in Renfield<\/i>. He will also appear in Nosferatu<\/i>, which is slated to premiere this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During a November 2022 interview with Slash Film<\/a>, Nicholas explained how he approaches playing an antagonist in a movie.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s ultimately a way, a thing whereby you can\u2019t judge the characters too strongly, and you\u2019ve got to have an understanding of why they\u2019re going about the thing,\u201d he noted while opening up about his performance in The Menu<\/i>. \u201cObviously, all their decisions that they\u2019ve made are, by their standards in those moments, acceptable. So, you have to go in with a kind of empathy for the character, I guess. So, it\u2019s partly that. But I think it is fun to play them, because then, you can try and figure out what it is that\u2019s caused them to be that way.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
