Malia Obama<\/strong><\/a>, 25, decided to drop her last name<\/a> when she debuted her short film at the Sundance Film Festival in January, which Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong><\/a>, 68, doesn\u2019t think she should be criticized for. The EGOT winner passionately defended Barack<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Michelle Obama<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s daughter, who went by Malia Ann at the festival, on the February 21 episode of The View<\/em><\/a>, and blatantly told Malia\u2019s haters to \u201cleave her alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf she knows she\u2019s an Obama, why do you care?\u201d Whoopi said. \u201cWhy do you care what she calls herself? If she wanted to call herself Jeanette MacDonald, she has the right to! If I can be Whoopi Goldberg, she can be whoever the hell she wants to be.\u201d Whoopi was born Caryn Elaine Johnson<\/strong>, but she changed her name when she was getting big in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean why are people triggered by this kind of stuff?\u201d the Sister Act <\/em>star went on to say on the ABC talk show. \u201cWhy are people wasting their time?\u201d<\/p>\n
