{"id":206714,"date":"2024-02-22T17:05:32","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T17:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/22\/bad-news-for-home-buyers-mortgage-rates-rise-for-third-week-in-a-row\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:21:45","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:21:45","slug":"bad-news-for-home-buyers-mortgage-rates-rise-for-third-week-in-a-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/22\/bad-news-for-home-buyers-mortgage-rates-rise-for-third-week-in-a-row\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Bad news for home buyers\u2019: Mortgage rates rise for third week in a row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.mktw.net\/im-761484\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0003025591\" role=\"document\">\n<p>U.S. mortgage rates rose for the third week in a row, on the back of expectations that the Federal Reserve will hold interest rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/fed-officials-more-worried-about-cutting-rates-too-fast-than-moving-too-slow-minutes-show-ed35f77c?mod=greg-robb&amp;mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\">steady until the spring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose and averaged 6.9% as of February 22, according to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.freddiemac.com\/pmms?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\"> data<\/a> released by Freddie Mac<br \/>\n        <a data-track-hover=\"QuotePeek\" data-charting-symbol=\"STOCK\/US\/OOTC\/FMCC\" class=\"qt-chip negative\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/investing\/stock\/FMCC?mod=MW_story_quote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMCC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202741363\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.56%<\/bg-quote><\/a><br \/>\n       on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>It\u2019s up 13 basis points from the previous week \u2014 one basis point is equal to one hundredth of a percentage point.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mortgage rates were<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/mortgage-rates-fall-below-7-for-the-first-time-since-august-b729c9c4?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\" rel=\"noopener\"> last at this level in mid-Dece<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/mortgage-rates-fall-below-7-for-the-first-time-since-august-b729c9c4?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\" rel=\"noopener\">m<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/mortgage-rates-fall-below-7-for-the-first-time-since-august-b729c9c4?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\" rel=\"noopener\">ber,<\/a> and that was when rates fell for the first time below 7% since August 2023.<\/p>\n<p>A year ago, the 30-year was averaging at 6.5%.<\/p>\n<p>The average rate on the 15-year mortgage was 6.29%, up from 6.12% last week. The 15-year was at 5.76% a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Freddie Mac\u2019s weekly report on mortgage rates is based on thousands of applications received from lenders across the country that are submitted to Freddie Mac when a borrower applies for a mortgage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Separate data by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mortgagenewsdaily.com\/mortgage-rates?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\" rel=\"noopener\"> Mortgage News D<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mortgagenewsdaily.com\/mortgage-rates?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\" rel=\"noopener\">a<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mortgagenewsdaily.com\/mortgage-rates?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\" rel=\"noopener\">ily<\/a> said that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was averaging at 7.14% as of Thursday afternoon.
