Tony Ganios<\/strong> has died<\/a> after undergoing surgery in New York, as reported by\u00a0Variety\u00a0<\/em>on February 20, 2024. His fianc\u00e9e, Amanda Serrano-Ganios<\/strong>, took to X (Twitter) to confirm the news on February 19. \u201cI love you so much, my love. I\u2019m broken,\u201d she penned in the caption of the photo. In the snapshot, Amanda sweetly held her fianc\u00e9\u2019s hand as they rested together.<\/p>\n

Later, she took to the social platform<\/a> once more to share what Tony\u2019s final words to her were. \u201cThe last words we said to each other were \u2018I love you.\u2019 Love is an understatement. You are everything to me,\u201d Amanda penned in the heartbreaking caption. \u201cMy heart, my soul and my best friend. #I love you #tonyganios.\u201d In a response to a fan, Amanda revealed that her soon-to-be husband had suffered from a spinal cord infection<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, Marc. It\u2019s just unreal to me right now. It was so fast,\u201d she explained in the post<\/a>. \u201cHe hadn\u2019t felt well and hid it from me for days. When he finally told me, and was taken to the hospital, his spinal cord was severely infected. They did surgery, next morning, his heart stopped. I\u2019m crushed.\u201d Amid Tony\u2019s unexpected death, below are five things to know about him.<\/p>\n

Tony Ganios Was Known for His Time on \u2018Porky\u2019s\u2019<\/h2>\n

Tony (b. 1959) was most known for his role as Meat in the 1981 film,\u00a0Porky\u2019s<\/em>. He starred in the\u00a0Bob Clark<\/strong>-directed project alongside\u00a0Dan Monahan<\/strong>,\u00a0Mark Herrier<\/strong>, and\u00a0Sex and the City\u00a0<\/em>alum\u00a0Kim Cattrall<\/strong><\/a>. The comedy was so successful that Tony also appeared in the two sequels including\u00a0Porky\u2019s 2\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Porky\u2019s Revenge!<\/em>. The movies featured a group of teenage boys seeking to lose their virginity during the 1950s, as reported by\u00a0Deadline<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tony Also Starred in \u2018The Wanderers\u2019<\/h2>\n

Two years before\u00a0Porky\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>Tony starred in\u00a0The<\/em> Wanderers<\/em>. The film starred other A-listers including\u00a0Ken Wahl<\/strong>,\u00a0John Friedrich<\/strong>, and\u00a0Scrooged\u00a0<\/em>actress\u00a0Karen Allen<\/strong>. The\u00a0Philip Kaufman<\/strong>-directed movie was released in 1979 and was about an Italian-American gang based in the Bronx. In this film, Tony played the role of Perry. Other films that featured the late actor included\u00a0Continental Divide<\/em>, Body Rock<\/em>, The Taking of Beverly Hills, and more. He even appeared in\u00a0Die Hard 2\u00a0<\/em>alongside\u00a0Bruce Willis<\/strong><\/a> in 1990.<\/p>\n

He Was Engaged to A Woman Named Amanda<\/h2>\n

Although it\u2019s unclear how long Tony and Amanda were together, she was clearly smitten with her leading man. Most recently, on February 20, 2024, Amanda gushed over her late life partner via social media<\/a>. \u201cHe was the best anyone could ask for. So loving, intelligent and funny. He was the light of my life,\u201d she wrote via a reply to a friend. \u201cThank you so much, Cody. Your family came up in our conversation just last week, and I told him how blessed he was, how John was a true friend and I wish I had met him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tony Ganios Didn\u2019t Believe He Was Successful<\/h2>\n

After his time on\u00a0Die Hard 2<\/em>, Tony retired from acting. He opened up about why he chose to step away from Hollywood during a 2015 interview with\u00a0Cult Faction<\/em><\/a>. \u201cBy the early \u201890s my ever lethargic career had slowed to a complete stop. Auditions for film and television roles, which had always been few and far between, had now become non-existent,\u201d Tony said at the time. \u201cAnd I was never the darling of the slimy agents and self-important casting directors. It was time to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later returned for brief work in Hollywood, however, Tony didn\u2019t feel successful. \u201cIt\u2019s a strange thing. While I did miss acting, I didn\u2019t miss the entertainment industry or most of the people in it. But as time went by, I would constantly run into fans who were genuinely disappointed to know that I had quit the business,\u201d he explained. \u201cTheir votes of confidence notwithstanding, I think few of my friends and fans realized how difficult it would be for me to get back into an industry where I was hardly successful in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n

He Is Being Mourned by Many Following His Death<\/h2>\n

After news of Tony\u2019s death landed on social media, many of the late star\u2019s fans took to X to publicly mourn his loss. \u201cMy condolences. Our whole family loved Tony,\u201d one fan penned<\/a> to Amanda. \u201cHe and I were corresponding on my old Twitter account & I deleted my account when Elon Musk<\/strong> took over. I remade it only recently. Wish I had kept that account for our messages. He was a titan among men, and full of love & stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ken, who starred in The<\/em> Wanderers\u00a0<\/em>alongside Tony, took to X<\/a> on February 19 to mourn his friend. \u201cRest In Peace, Buddy \u2026.. I love you. #tonyganios,\u201d he captioned a throwback photo with his former co-star. Later, actor\u00a0Jack Mulcahy<\/strong>, took to X on February 20 to grieve Tony\u2019s death. \u201cDevastated by the news that my friend and \u2018PORKY\u2019s\u2019 cast-mate Tony Ganios passed away last Sunday.
