Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> revealed that she struggled with psoriasis<\/a> as a child while promoting her new hair care line, C\u00e9cred<\/a>. The \u201cSummer Renaissance\u201d singer, 42, did an interview with\u00a0Essence<\/em><\/a> published February 19 where she explained how her \u201cdeeply personal journey\u201d with her hair inspired her to start her new business<\/a>, which officially launched on February 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have many beautiful memories attached to my hair,\u201d Bey said. \u201cThe relationship we have with our hair is such a deeply personal journey. From spending my childhood in my mother\u2019s salon to my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis \u2014 these moments have been sacred to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp, according to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>. It\u2019s a common, chronic disease with no cure.<\/p>\n

Beyonc\u00e9 created C\u00e9cred (pronounced \u201csacred\u201d) as an homage to her mom Tina Lawson<\/strong><\/a>, who used to own a salon in Texas. In the\u00a0Essence\u00a0<\/em>interview, the superstar explained how much she learned from spending time in the salon as a child.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conversations and debates in the salons and barbershops create a sense of community for the people who look to it as a retreat from their everyday lives,\u201d Beyonc\u00e9 explained. \u201cFor them, it\u2019s a place to feel beautiful and vent, laugh, share secrets and pass down wisdom. It\u2019s the most consistent community gathering we have. It\u2019s so important that it\u2019s a sanctuary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bey also revealed how she came up with the name for her new hair care line. \u201cI took the end of my name, C\u00e9, and made it the beginning of the word sacred to create C\u00e9cred. From my mother\u2019s salon, daily rituals with my father, and years of experience in developing a hair care line, the journey has been just that: C\u00e9cred,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Beyonc\u00e9 announced her latest business venture via Instagram on February 6, with a\u00a0cryptic video<\/a> featuring home footage from her mom\u2019s former salon. She sent a marketing email to her fans to share her excitement at creating her first hair care line, which offers shampoos, scalp scrubs, conditioners, treatment masks, and more beauty products.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has always been a dream of mine to create a hair care line,\u201d Beyonc\u00e9 said, according to ABC News<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m so proud to share C\u00e9cred, which celebrates and honors the wisdom in our hair. I\u2019m excited that you are now part of this community and can help to build an intimate and powerful space where we can share our journeys, our hair secrets and protect all things sacred.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
