The\u00a0Jason Bourne<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>movies have been an extremely popular action-movie franchise for over two decades. Adapted from\u00a0Robert Ludlum\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>trilogy of\u00a0Bourne\u00a0<\/em>books,\u00a0Matt Damon<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>brought the character to life when he originally played the role in 2002\u2019s\u00a0The Bourne Identity.\u00a0<\/em>He\u2019s continued to portray the character in each film, except for 2012\u2019s\u00a0The Bourne Legacy,\u00a0<\/em>although his character was referenced.<\/p>\n

When Is the New \u2018Jason Bourne\u2019 Movie Coming Out?<\/h2>\n

Unfortunately, there is no set release date for the upcoming\u00a0Bourne\u00a0<\/em>movie. The most recent installment was 2016\u2019s\u00a0Jason Bourne,\u00a0<\/em>but there had been no official updates on a sequel for years, but it was reported that a new sequel was officially in development in November 2023, according to Deadline<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>All that being said, it\u2019s not clear when the new movie will hit theaters once it\u2019s filmed.<\/p>\n

With the report that the new sequel was in development, the only person named as part of the crew was director\u00a0Edward Berger<\/strong>. The German director is best-known for his work on the 2022 film\u00a0All Quiet on the Western Front.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

While it\u2019s not clear exactly who would return and be featured in the movie, or if there would be any new faces in the upcoming movie, the only obvious person making a return would be Matt Damon in the titular role as Jason Bourne, and he seems eager to return to the franchise.<\/p>\n

What Has Matt Damon Said About a New \u2018Jason Bourne\u2019 Movie?<\/h2>\n

While details are still sparing about the forthcoming sequel, Matt did open up about wanting to get back to the role, which he originated in 2002\u2019s\u00a0The Bourne Identity,\u00a0<\/em>in a February 2024 appearance on\u00a0The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.\u00a0<\/em>He admitted that \u201cno details have been given to me,\u201d but he expressed interest in working with the director. \u201cI would love to work with him \u2013 he\u2019s working on it. I\u2019m as anxious as you are to see if this thing is \u2013 I hope it\u2019s great and that we can do it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Matt also showed that he\u2019s hoping that he can appear in the movie sooner rather than later, but hinted that he may eventually pass on the role to someone new. \u201cAt a certain point, someone\u2019s going to need to take it over. I\u2019m not getting any younger,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
