The son of former YouTube<\/a> CEO Susan Wojcicki was found dead in a college dorm on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Marco Troper, 19, was a freshman at UC Berkeley. A drug overdose is suspected.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cHe ingested a drug, and we don\u2019t know what was in it,\u201d Troper\u2019s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, told<\/a> SFGATE. \u201cOne thing we do know, it was a drug.\u201d The family, she added, is awaiting a toxicology report that could help confirm the cause of death, but it might take up to a month.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the most important thing is that teenagers and college students need to know that drugs today are not the same as the drugs of yesterday, they\u2019re often laced with fentanyl,\u201d Esther Wojcicki told<\/a> the Daily Post <\/em>in Palo Alto. <\/p>\n A university spokesperson wrote to Fortune<\/em>: \u201cWe can confirm that Marco Troper, a first-year freshman at UC Berkeley, has died. He was an undeclared major in the College of\u00a0Letters & Science. We do not know the cause of death, that is to be determined by the coroner\u2019s office.\u201d <\/p>\n There were \u201cno signs of foul play\u201d and an investigation is underway, according to the University of California Police Department.<\/p>\n \u201cOur family is devastated beyond comprehension,\u201d Esther Wojcicki wrote in a Facebook<\/a> post<\/a>. \u201cMarco was the most kind, loving, smart, fun and beautiful human being He was just getting starting on his second semester of his freshman year at UC Berkeley majoring in math and was truly loving it.\u201d<\/p>\n The family is well known in Silicon Valley<\/a>. Susan Wojcicki rented her garage<\/a> in Menlo Park to Google\u2019s founders\u2014Larry Page and Sergey Brin\u2014in 1998, when she was a marketing manager at Intel<\/a>. She went on to work for many years at Google<\/a>, including as the head of YouTube, a role she stepped down from last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n Anne Wojcicki, Susan\u2019s sister, is the cofounder and CEO<\/a> of the personal genomics firm 23andMe, and was previously married to Brin<\/a>.<\/p>\n Esther Wojcicki wrote a 2019 book<\/a> entitled How to Raise Successful People<\/em> and, as a journalism teacher, mentored<\/a> Lisa Brennan-Jobs, daughter of Apple<\/a> cofounder Steve Jobs.<\/p>\n Troper\u2019s grandfather, the late Stanley Wojcicki, was chairman of Stanford\u2019s physics department. He died last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cMarco\u2019s life was cut too short,\u201d Esther Wojcicki wrote in her Facebook post. \u201cAnd we are all devastated, thinking about all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and we will miss together.
