Matthew Morrison<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>revealed that he was planning on making his exit from\u00a0Glee<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>shortly before\u00a0<\/a>Cory Monteith<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>died in 2013. Matthew, 45, explained that he had already asked to leave the show, but once Cory died, he knew that he had to stay in a new interview on the\u00a0And That\u2019s What You Really Missed <\/em>podcast on Thursday, February 2015.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Where It All Began\u00a0<\/em>singer opened up<\/a> that he was \u201ctrying to get off the show\u201d at the time to explore other opportunities. \u201cIn season 5, I asked to be off the show, just \u2018cause like, I\u2019m no longer being used in the way I wanted to,\u201d he said, via Entertainment Weekly.<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u201cWe were at a high, I was like, \u2018Maybe if I get off the show, I could go do something else, go do a movie,\u2019 and they agreed to let me off the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matthew said that when Cory died at 31 in July 2013, the people working on the show said that they couldn\u2019t take him out of the series. \u201cYou can\u2019t have the two main guys on the show [leave]. So yeah, it was an interesting time,\u201d he said on the podcast<\/a>. \u201cObviously I understood, I was like \u2018yeah, I get it.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Navigating the loss of Cory, Matthew said that he had a lot of \u201cmixed emotions\u201d while he stayed on the show. He said that it was a matter of \u201ctrying to reconcile my own wants and selfish needs with the grief of losing an amazing friend.\u201d Despite the conflicting emotions, the actor said that he was still dedicated to the work. \u201cI\u2019m a professional, I showed up, I did my job. And there was a good pay increase, so that worked too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Cory\u2019s death came after the fourth season of\u00a0Glee<\/em> ended<\/a>, and the season 5 tribute to him\u00a0\u201cThe Quarterback\u201d aired in October 2013, three months after his death. The show continued for one more season and ended after six seasons in March 2015. There have been rumors that a\u00a0Glee\u00a0<\/em>reboot<\/a> might be in the works in early 2024.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
