His recent best-selling book <em>Young Forever: The Secrets to Living Your Longest, Healthiest Life <\/em>promotes the idea that people have some control over the rate at which they age and, therefore, the quality of their later years. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/well\/2023\/03\/01\/5-mental-tricks-to-make-exercise-a-habit\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">Exercise<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/well\/2023\/02\/05\/eat-like-the-longest-living-people-in-the-world-with-these-5-blue-zone-foods\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">nutrition<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/well\/2023\/02\/16\/toxic-stress-affects-body-and-brain-shortens-life\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">managing stress<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/well\/2023\/02\/23\/friends-trump-diet-exercise-healthy-life-middle-aged\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">socialization<\/a> are all associated with aging well and reducing the risk for chronic conditions that lead to early mortality\u2014although genetics undoubtedly still plays a role.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These are the five foods Hyman eats daily to \u201censure my health and to make sure I live a long and healthy life,\u201d he says in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=mark+hyman+tiktok&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">TikTok<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In short, these foods \u201care medicine,\u201d the aging expert says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cruciferous vegetables\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Cruciferous vegetables\u2014broccoli, brussels sprouts, kale, and cabbage\u2014are rich in phytonutrients crucial for reducing inflammation and the risk of cancer. They also contain magnesium, folate, and fiber to help with digestion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll that stuff contains compounds that activate the cellular detoxification pathways that optimize your mineral status,\u201d Hyman says in the TikTok.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hyman eats a cup or two of these vegetables each day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Olive oil<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet is cooking with olive oil, and Hyman says he prioritizes extra virgin olive oil each day. The healthy fat contains antioxidants touted for reducing the risk of chronic health conditions and heart disease.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Olive oil can also combat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutoliveoil.org\/12-surprising-health-benefits-of-olive-oil\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">oxidative stress<\/a>, which harms brain health and can trigger neurodegenerative diseases.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood fats are good for you,\u201d Hyman says. \u201cYou need to make sure you get lots of good fats, and olive oil is a great way to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nuts<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Nuts, including cashews, almonds, and walnuts, have been associated with a reduced risk for diabetes, improving health and life span, Hyman says. They are rich in fiber, making people feel fuller and stay energized for longer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dan Buettner, the founder of Blue Zones LLC, also found nuts <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/well\/2023\/02\/05\/eat-like-the-longest-living-people-in-the-world-with-these-5-blue-zone-foods\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-bd4ab706-0 dXixpY styledLinkColor \">as a key to longevity<\/a> in his research centered around the diets of those living the longest\u2014and says to eat a daily handful. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Berries<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Berries contain a large number of antioxidants and phytochemicals, which can \u201cactivate longevity pathways,\u201d Hyman says.
