Going into Super Bowl LVIII, music fans knew to keep their eyes on Usher and Taylor Swift. But no one expected Beyonce to enter the conversation, much less become the center of it.<\/p>\n
The pop star was the centerpiece of a Verizon<\/a> commercial during the second half of the game that seemed fairly typical\u2014a giant star teaming with a company to promote its services in a humorous manner. In this case, the carrier flexed on its network\u2019s reliability as Beyonce<\/a> tried to \u201cbreak the internet\u201d in an increasingly ludicrous number of attempts, from running for president to traveling to space.<\/p>\n The efforts, of course, failed, but at the very end of the spot, Beyonce says \u201cOkay, they ready. Drop the new music.\u201d<\/p>\n That baffling line wasn\u2019t a joke. It was a declaration. Usher came in at number three with \u201cYeah!\u201d (Usher\u2019s new album was the top seller on that list, though.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
