Drew Barrymore<\/a> <\/strong>often uses her eponymous show to take a look back<\/a> at various aspects of her life. But in a new interview, she recaleld some of the most difficult times in her troubled past, and admitted she couldn\u2019t believe she\u2019d survived. \u201cI\u2019ve had a \u2018bad girl\u2019 narrative on my back my whole life,\u201d the Never Been Kissed<\/em> star, 48, confessed to Us Weekly<\/em> for an expansive interview published on February 7.\u00a0 \u201cI thought I deserved bad things. Now I\u2019m raising two daughters. I can\u2019t do that to myself anymore. Kind of like the drinking \u2014 I\u2019m picking off things one at a time, going, \u2018I can\u2019t carry you anymore. You aren\u2019t good for me.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Drew continued, emphasizing during the interview<\/a> that her current life is filled with gratitude. \u201cThe personal part of me has been the ultimate work in progress,\u201d she explained. \u201cThe professional in me feels really brave and never entitled. Always so privileged and grateful. I\u2019ve lost everything. I\u2019ve got it back. I\u2019ve lost it again. Got it back. So I don\u2019t assume anything stays. I know not to take anything for granted. Whatever difficult times I\u2019ve gone through professionally, I believed I could rewrite things.\u201d<\/p>\n

And rewrite them she did, transcending her former difficulties to create an entirely new life. But while the mom of two<\/a> has appeared confident and on the ball for years, she also admitted she\u2019d struggled in her personal life. \u201cThen in my personal life, I was a failure and a broken person,\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t f***ing believe I\u2019m alive sometimes.\u201d Drew also went on to say that time literally heals. \u201c<\/span>Time is the greatest asset we have \u2014 it allows things to get better, to shift, to have light come into a dark space,\u201d she shared. \u201cIt has taken my whole life to get here, but I\u2019m so happy to be out of the jail in my mind.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wedding Singer<\/em><\/a> star famously battled addiction<\/a> and mental health issues in her youth \u2014 but elsewhere in the interview, she said she\u2019s kicked her alcohol habit for good. \u201cI drank for, oh God, since I was nine,\u201d she divulged. \u201cAnd then one day, I just thought, \u2018I\u2019m never going to do this again.\u2019 I don\u2019t have cravings. I have alcohol all over my house. I serve people drinks. It\u2019s a confident choice. But it took me 35 years to get there. So, once I got there, I was really done.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
